lxskllr: Go to different shops, and ask if they have anyone who's particularly good at portraits. If they do, ask the guy if you can look at his portfolio. Any tattoo artist worth his salt will keep a photo album full of pictures of the work they've done that they take whenever their customer agrees to it. If they have a professional looking portfolio that has plenty of quality portraits in it, they'll do a good job on yours. If they don't have a portrait guy, or don't have a portfolio, don't get it there. Also, if the general mood their doesn't suit you, find some place else.

Make sure that their rendition of what you want is the way you want it and don't be afraid to ask them to redo a drawing. Also, check the transfer to make sure it looks right before they start. Although not everyone does it, it's also good form to tip. I generally give $10 or so for a drawing, and $20-$30 tips at the end of a session. It's extra money, but every guy I've ever been to has taken good care of me, and most will offer you free touch ups if the ink starts to fade after time.

I don't have any tatts at the moment. But I have been seriously thinking about getting a smiley face tatt on the bottom of my right big toe. That way no one will see it unless I show them............and it should give any EMTs, doctors, nurses, coroner,or furneral director a chuckle. I can just see a white tag tied to that smiling toe.

Seriously, one day I will get it.
Awesome idea PP. I love funny/ironic tattoos like that.

Nothing for me. It's just like piercing; I like it, looks cool on someone else, but it's not for me.
I don't hold anything in high enough regard to put on my body forever.

No offence meant, but to me, I think many people get over-tattooed, and pierced, to look like a freak, and get attention. That's their business of course. I just have 2 tats on my shoulders, and sometimes think about getting two more on my upper arms, but I got my tats for myself, not to be gawked at at the mall, or have an issue getting a job, mine are easily covered with a short sleeve shirt.

As you said, no offense meant by what i am about to say, just explaining my thoughts on it. There definitely are people who take tattoos to an extreme (i am on my way myself) but that doesn't mean they desire attention or want to be a 'freak'. More than likely, they are just very passionate about the art form or tattoos and how they make them feel. As cliche as it is to say, all of my tattoos are very important to me; i wouldn't have permanently changed my body for something insignificant.

I'm also not crazy about attention or having people stare at me, but it's something that goes along with it. I love having some amazing artwork that i will always have with me to help me remember and also to make me feel better. Once you start getting well covered you do notice a lot more when people are staring at you, a lot of the time it is negative just because they dont understand why i would get them. They dont need to, they are my tattoos, i'm the one living with them. People tend to push their opinions down your throat about them when they see them.

One could easily say that you are a 'freak' for the type of music you play simply because they dont understand it. (This was NOT meant to be an insult; i was actually pretty impressed with your stuff). Every single person that has ever lived on this planet past infancy is a freak in one way or another, there are just some that are more open to embrace that side of themselves and not try and hide it and pretend that it doesn't exist. It simply just doesn't matter.

The job issue is also not of concern to me. I personally am going to wait until much later in life until im settled to tattoo beyond my wrists/ onto my neck so that everything i have can be concealed if need be, even though that should not be the case. Tom, i really hope that this post doesn't come off as attacking you, that surely was not my intent. This is just an issue i have a lot of passion and opinions on.

Those are some really great tattoos guys, thanks for sharing.

amdusias, i f***ing love the ralph tattoo, that is just plain awesome.

Oh, I have nothing against tats, and even big tats, and I guess it's just personal opinion, and maybe too much TV, but I think in some cases, people do do it, for the freak factor, and by freak, I mean to alter their appearance permanantly to such a high extent that they are gonna be looked at and cause wonderment, now like I said, I have seen people with decent looking sleeves and such, but then I have seen some that just look, in my opinon, bad, like circus bad, and the piercings, and body modification can go overboard, to me. Now, again, I'm open minded, and I don't care if people do, it's their body, more power to them, but to me, I think there is a line between well done artistic tats, and circus sideshow. Or trailor park, and ghetto. Again, just my personal view, if you(anyone) wanna have G-money Thug tat'd on the side of your neck, hey, it's none of my business, just my opinion in a tat thread. But again, I do like many tats on people I have seen, some are really nice, I like some of those Japanese body suits too.

Absolutely, that has actually always been one of my issues with tattoos; people that cover themselves in ridiculous stuff, but then again, that's my opinion and they may believe my tattoos are ridiculous. There are certainly people out there that just get tattoos for the 'shock' factor or monetary gain. Remember the lady that had a website tattooed on her forehead? Some people are not mature enough to get tattoos. Those Japanese body suits are pretty amazing in my opinion.

It's not just the Yakuza that has them, that is where it started though, but yes those are the ones lol.

I have a bunch of old Yakuza Japanese films, and you see these quite a bit, in some Samurai films too.
