Wiretapping Jump 26% from 08-09 *New Record*

The numbers in the report do not include wiretap orders in terrorism investigations, which go through a secret court in Washington, D.C. They also don’t account for the number of Americans whose communications were caught by the National Security Agency’s warrantless wiretapping program, which Congress legalized in July 2008.

Can you believe this people? I know they have Echelon since the Clinton days but I am really starting to get worried about the " walls have ears" shit going on this decade.

This is in no way Obama's fault and is directly Bush's fault. Obama did continue the program, so he gets some blame, and Clinton also allowed secret wiretapping, but it was made "legit" under Bush so I put this on him (even though congress did it and had Dem majority).

^--- See that? Proof that it's all a lie. They tap our phones, read our texts, gather our faxes. In europe they have CCTVs everywhere and are now issuing speeding tickets based on satellites that track your car from space.

For those of you 30-40 or older, could you imagine that this would be happening before you died?

For those who are in their 20's or have children: Can you imagine what the future will be like? Telescreens in every home, listening in on you. You shouldn't care if you have nothing to hide, right?

At least the Federal part for 2009 is all Obama (well except for what, 20 days?).

The problem with being the leader of the Executive branch is that the "buck stops" with you. Not the last guy in your chair. If he wanted it to stop, all he has to do is sign the executive order.

Wasn't there a scene in Total Recall where a ticket was issued from an ATM sort of machine on the wall each time a curse was spoken?

I guess I wouldn't really have a problem with it if it were legit every time. Kinda like at an airport. If they search my bags for explosives, weapons, etc. for the safety of the plane and people aboard that's all good and well. If they happen to come across a few grams of hash or what have you they should turn a blind eye 'cos it's not a threat towards anything they're checking for. Fat chance. Everyone want's to feel important.

I believe you're thinking of Bruce Willis's phonebooth-sized apartment in The Fifth Element. As I recall, he also had a machine that dispensed his daily nicotine allotment -- 5 very short cigarettes that had more filter than tobacco.
