You really gotta go and see the Munich Stadium, no matter if you are or aren't into sports. That thing is a real beauty. Though I think I'd might be quite difficult not to see, since it admirable size.

well i know that i am necroing but i thought it would be better than starting a new thread. i now have concrete dates june 19th - july 3rd. i am going to stay my first week in deggendorf(my friend and his gf are going to athens so i am on my own) then we are going to take day trips to munich, regensburg. if anyone has any other suggestions of what to see in eastern bavaria please let me know because all i end up finding is stuff for hotels and i dont need that. so i will leave you with this.
P.S. i am more into the chilln as the bulk of the trip. any good pubs anyone knows of in degg?

Damn, I watched the video more than ten times and still couldn't understand everything. Luckily I found a transcript of the dialogues in a Youtube-comment. Some words are only understandable in written form.

It's a persiflage of an anti-analphabetism-TV-campaign, which reads about like: "5 million people in Germany can not write and read. We help."

In the video it says: "Over 70 million people in Germany don't understand Bavarian. We help."

I've never been in the region of Deggendorf, but the Bavarian Forest is surely a must-see. Large parts of the forest are free of agricultural utilisation since the seventies. Mother nature has begun to take control again.

            Cheers!

The Bavarian forest is not the same as the the Black Forest, though they are both in the southern part of Germany.

I am from Pforzheim which is called the portal to the Black Forest. I am not sure if ir is my regional dialect or the fact I watched tons of Peter Steiners Theaterstadl as a child, I did not have much trouble with the video. Now if it was a northern dialect (Friesland or so.) it would have been quite a bit harder.

Either way it is a funny video.

A bit late to the discussion, I used to live near Paderborn (reasonable in itself but not particularly astounding). Other than the city the surrounding area is beautiful, spent an entire summer holiday visiting Herman the German, the Extern Stones etc though generally im a bit biased in my love for the Teutoburg Forest lol. (i even have a tattoo planned of the Dreihasenfenster).

I see that you've decided where you're going, hope you have an amazing time heh I know you will

                      I totally second that!

Not to mention the Senne military training area, maybe the last piece of (nearly) untouched nature in Germany. The few tank-trails and the shooting ranges by far don't poison the environment as much as modern agriculture does.

BTW, the Externsteine are maybe the best place to be on June 21 (midsummer). Even in Scandinavia you certainly never find as much mystics, pagans, self proclaimed shamans or simply 'freaks' at one place. It's absolute fun!

                      Cheers!
