    New User - My Story

Hello to everyone in this nice forum.

I am both, new to snus and new to this forum, so I'd like to introduce myself and tell you my snus story.

I come from Switzerland and am 28 years old. I've been smoking cigarettes for like 12 years and started to develop a really bad cough lately because of all the smoking. So I became a little bit worried and checked my lung functions and did an x-ray of my chest, which both turned out to be okay so far - no signs of a COPD or cancer. But as the cough became worse and worse and I noticed that I was coughing like every two minutes or so while other people around me would never had to cough at all I knew that I had to stop smoking.
I had tried to stop smoking before and in some cases was successful for a few weeks or even months but each time I would start to smoke again. I've tried nicotene chewing gums as well as nicotene patches only to find out that they both bring only moderate help while being damned expensive.

I am learning Swedish and while watching the Swedish movie "fröken sverige" in order to improve my Swedish skills I noticed the main caracter snusing all the times. This reminded me of my last holiday in Sweden where I once tried one piece of portion snus. It was a bad experience because I had no idea on how to use it, so - please don't laugh at me - I started to suck on the portion rather than putting it under my lips. This obviously didn't taste very good to me and so I never tried it again.

But encharmed by the main caracter of the movie I started to read some websites about snus and learned that I used it the wrong way this one time I tried it bacik then. So I kept on reading more and more pages and started to become curious again. The more I read, the more I wanted to try snus again; I also became sure, that snus could actually help me quit smoking.
So I decided to give it another try and ordered like 10 different brands of snus on snusexpress.com. While waiting for the snus to come, I kept on smoking and my cough became even worse. So I decided to not only give snus a try but to definitely switch to snus - even if I would not like it. Since the snus had not arrived yet and I really didn't want to smoke any longer because of the bad cough I placed another order at buysnus.com and had it shipped to me by UPS overnight express. I bught a big amount so that I'd be forced to use it rather than throwing it away for I knew that one can get used to something just by trying it again and again and this is what I decided to do with snus. I'd done this with guinnes beer before.

So one and a half days later I received the snus and - applied the correct way this time - instantly started to like it very much. I've been snusing for quite a few days now and I was - without any afford - able to reduce my cigarette consumtion to one or two a day (it used to be like 10 to 15 a day). I even was invited to a official dinner in a restaurant yesterday evening and I left my cigarettes at home and was easy with snus - absolutely no need to smoke at all. This would never have been possible before.

I think that snus makes a great substitute to cigarettes. No, it is even better than cigarettes - way better. As somone else on this forum has mentioned before, I also like all the different brands and tastes available. Snus is not for sale in Switzerland so I have to import it from Sweden too, what makes it even more special to me for I like Sweden and I also like to do something that not everyone else does. I don't know anyone elso who snuses actually.
I think that smoking cigarettes is nothing more than an ugly addiction while snusing is kind of a lifestyle. And it's much healthier than smoking :-)

I've vacuumed the cans of snus and put them in the freezer. There are two more cans that i keep in the fridge and one that I always have with me. I've only tried portion snus so far but I also have lös in the freezer, so I'll try lössnus soon.

I really like this forum and it has helped me alot on making my mind about switching to snus. Thanx to all who contribute to this forum - you've all helped me reduce my smoking habits and I'm sure that I won't buy a new pack of cigarettes once this one that I still have will be empty!

Welcome to the forums, and congratulations on quitting smoking. Snus is a great way to quit. I've found that I have to quit smoking for awhile until I get used to not reaching for a cigarette all of the time. I didn't want to quit completely, but I've been smoking too long, and old habits are hard to break. I grab a cigarette, even when I don't really want one. After a month or so I'll try getting cigarette tobacco again, and see if I can control myself a little better. Not smoking totally isn't a problem though as long as I have snus :^)

Welcome, aardvark. I hope you enjoy this forum, and I hope that you'll be a contributing member. That's great news that you've quit smoking for snus, snus can do the job if you let it do its' thing.

Going without cigarettes is quite okay so far and I hope that it will stay like this. So I'll be allowed to call myself a non-smoker; never thought that I'd really be able to do so :-)
I'm having some saliva issues right now, what I think is strange for this was no problem during the first few days. I've read that other new-snusers sometimes seem to have the same problem, so I hope that it will eventually solve all by itself. Swallowing it all the time is not doing anything bad to me right now, but it's definitely not how it is supposed to be.
The three open cans seem to last an eternity although I have a portion in like constantly. I'm desperately waiting for one can to be empty so I can try another flavour!

I haven't had saliva issues since I first started. I almost threw up from having a Camel Original get a bit too juicy once though. I think most of that was from the different nicotine delivery system, and the fact that Camel Originals taste like crap :^P. I got used to snus very quickly, and now I enjoy when then get a bit runny. The big flavor's enjoyable for me, and I'm quite used to the nicotine at this point.

LOL, yes, the cans seem to last much longer than they should. I am a chainsnuser, most of the time, and it still takes me usually 3 days to finish a can. I have never been able to figure out the math. But I think I tend to leave them in sometimes for a LONG time. I can alos go a long time without one if I don't happen to think about it.

7 months since I first started using, I really don't think about it much. What I love most about snus is the smooth nicotine delivery. I no longer have those jumps in nicotine with the accompanying crash. Usually, when I put another in, it is not because I feel the "need" for nicotine, I just like having one there. On the few times I have forgotten my snus, I have gone 3 hours at least before I even started to notice any desire for nicotine.

I was a two plus pack a day smoker when I started snus. I have been smoking off and on (mostly on) since I was 9. Yet now, I wouldn't care if I ever had another cigarette. Amazing.
