    America? Its number 1!

Do you see the problem with that thread title? Sadly, many US denizens do not. Judging by the posts of many individuals here and on other forums, basic English spelling continues to confound native English speakers.

Do you know what I would do were I in power? Well, apart from the nationalization of all industry and the introduction of basic human rights? I would mandate a simple three-part examination for high-school seniors. The test would be as follows:

    (1) Explain the difference between "its" and "it's." Use both correctly in a paragraph.
    (2) Explain the difference between "your" and "you're." Use both correctly in a paragraph.
    (3) Explain the difference between "there," "their," and "they're." Use all three correctly in a paragraph.

Those passing the test would receive a fully-subsidized college education. Those failing the test would receive gainful employment in a factory.

Seriously, people, how difficult is it to use your own national language (obviously, this query does not apply to the non-English speakers here - you at least have an excuse)? How can the right-wingers amongst you advocate for an English-only curriculum and English-only voting when you yourself do not, in fact, speak English well at all?

PS: I am not a native English speaker. I learned this language from simple immersion; it's really not all that difficult as far as human languages go.

PSS: If you feel compelled to reply to this post in deliberately-incorrect English, know that you are not as witty as you assume.

I think most people do know the difference Faust, but the history of how contractions change over time is a long one, and it varies by area. Think of it as dialect, where everything is said just a little bit different depending on where you are from. That and the fact that English is not pushed super hard in our school system. Plus, be aware that this is a forum, an informal area of discussion, not a news article or a lab report, people just get lazy.

" Those failing the test would receive gainful employment in a factory."

Lol, I gotta (oh, my bad, "have to") say, Judge is more consistent in his views than anyone I have met. So, should we keep this on topic, or go into a giant flame war about how nationalizing every industry never works?

Also: Cummon Faust, no one likes a grammar nazi. You are correct in what you are saying but don't be elitist about it. What is "proper english" anyways, should we all be speaking like the Europeans? I vote that we do, those brits have cool accents. But point taken, as I more than likely have the most grammatical errors per post than any other member.

You forgot 2, to, two and too.

Also, "irregardless" pisses me off. Please add that too.

If you're going to rant, please try to be complete.
