Makes sense, for whatever reason i didn't look at it that way.

What do you think of Under the Dome, Wicked? I'm not terribly far in myself yet, about 300 or so pages. I really enjoy it, i think it's great so far. I liked the descriptions of everything that was happening as the dome came down and what the results were.

          Current reading:

          "The Singularity is Near"

          &

"The Greatest Show on Earth" by Richard Dawkins. - I got this book because it is supposed to be the most complete explanation of evolution and the proof that it is real. I like Dawkins and this book is very iformative and exactly what I was looking for, but jesus christ man; the guy spend like the first 2 chapters calling religious people every name under the sun, theres like 10 pages of analogies comparing them to various idiots etc. I mean I wihs he would just get in and present his case, but he prefaces it with chapters of "SOME IDIOTS DON'T BELIEVE IN EVOLUTION, THEY SUCK AND ARE STUPID." and "Use this book to convince your family members or friends who may be idiots like this". I'm like "GET TO THE ****IN POINT ALREADY", I get it, 40% of American's don't believe in evolution, so stop talking and make your case god damnit!

But all in all it's a great book for anyone who wants a better understanding of the evolutionary process. Answers just about every question. After reading this I think I will be able to refute even the most hardcore evolution denier. Maybe even on this forum! lol.

I just got the motherload of books. Plan on reading at least half of all of them by the end of the month. I call it the super-don't-have-anything-better-to-do challenge! lol.

Cocaine Nation: THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS I'VE EVER READ. I just started it but seriously, anyone who has anything to say about the drug war needs to read this. This book is perfect for a lot of people on this forum from all political spectrums. A detialed history of the conflict from start to finish.

How to win friends and influence people: A huge classic and bestseller, basically talks about how to influence people in your favor. Most people have probably heard of this bookat one point or another.

Isaac Asimov: "In the beginning": This is one I am really looking forward to. Asimov compares science's account of creation with that of the book of genesis, line by line.
Black Bodies and Quantum Cats: Quantum theory
The Elegant Universe by Birane Greene- String Theory ( I read this in the past but it's been a while
The Dance Wu Li Master, an overview of the new physics: quantum theory
From Eternity to Here, the quest for the ultimate theory of time: Physics, mainly on the nature of time.

Objective: Finish all of these mainly science books in 30 days.
Difficulty: I have to manage to read all of them an not learn how to spell any better than I currently do.

Don't worry guys, i'm up to the challenge!

                Relevent to thread:

                http://www.sci-tech-today.com/story....26M7EAS&page=1

Some of the earliest known written documents expressed the anxiety of some in Pharaonic Egypt that the written word would impair memory and turn humans into ignorant fools.

The Greek philosopher Plato revealed the fears some Egyptians expressed when he wrote of the Egyptian myth that the god Thoth invented writing and then boasted to the chief god, Amun, that it was an "elixir of memory and wisdom."

In reply, Amun predicted trouble for readers and writers.
He said it would cause forgetfulness in writers because they would not use their memory. Moreover, he predicted, readers would give only the appearance of knowing things while remaining "ignorant and hard to get along with, since they are not wise but only appear wise."

                ^^^^ F uc k Amun anyways. Dick.

Since getting the iphone I do all my reading on that now with the Stanza app. That plus project guttenberg means I get all the classics for free so I am catching up on my too read list. Just finished the entire cannon of Sherlock Holmes and reading the Count of Monte Cristo now. Considering my book consumption rate and the fact I purchased and kept all books I read, the iphone is easily saving me $30 a month just in literature expenses.

Stanza is just another free e-reader app, I just got used to that one first I guess. I also have the kindle app for anything newer I want to purchase and read.

I'm about to do the same thing with a Sony pocket reader and Gutenberg. I'm mostly reading literature and poetry anyway. May as well save some money and space.

Exactly. As much as I like physical books it has become more of an anchor than anything else. I literally have in the neighborhood of 5000 books at present. If this ereader thing sticks then I will be filtering that collection to the few hundred choice books I want to keep and sell the remainder (or donate to libraries). The thing is most of the stuff on my too read list are classics that are freely available. Yeah there is some newer stuff there but truth be told I don't mind the kindle price for e-books considering they will never degrade or fall apart on me.

Maybe it's just something about the name Tom. Tom Delounge from Blink 182 is obsessed with aliens too.
