    Huge snus robbery!

According to several Scandinavian news sources, there has been a huge snus robbery in Göteborg, Sweden!

DR (Danish Radio) write that the number of stolen cans is 430.000, and Swedish GT Expressen connects it directly to the recent tax rise ...

I haven't got time to translate it right now, sorry, but most of you guys are surely clever enough to be able to understand the most important parts:

Sedan priset på snus chockhöjdes vid årsskiftet har dosorna blivit hårdvaluta, också för tjuvar.
Translation: Since the price for snus has strongly been increased with the turn of the year, the cans became a hard currency, also for thieves.

    That's a very good comment!

It will not take long, till Swedish snus also gets smuggled. The Swedish Match brands are also for sale in Russia, and quite cheap, as I read somewhere. With many Swedes owning a boat and Russia being not that far, what else should one expect.

I doubt that the Swedish government really gets more tax-revenues.

    Cheers!

This happens every time a government imposes sanctions on a product - they create a black market. The more outrageous the tax, the bigger the black market. Not to be unexpected, no doubt.

I propose that Swedish Match expand their snus availability in the U.S. market(and include Arkansas) to help make up that void! Just a suggestion.

There are surely enough buyers here based on the sales numbers I have read to make that a reality.

That would be the worst thing that could happen to us Americans. If you think international shipping's expensive, wait until the politicians take notice of snus, and tax the hell out of it. You'll be longing for the good old days when it only took a week or 2, and didn't cost a whole pay check to buy a weeks worth of snus ;^)

I bet you're right. I didn't even think of that. I was just salivating at the thought of snus being more accesible here.
