Although dental implants are available, the healing process can take months on end, and implants that fail to align with the ever-growing jawbone tend to fall out. According to a study published in the latest Journal of Dental Research, a new tissue regeneration technique may allow people to simply regrow a new set of pearly whites.

Kind of a loaded question. It depends on your definition of aborted fetus.

If you mean the thousands of frozen embryo's in fertility clinics across the country, then yeah, we should use those - it's better then destroying them, IMO.

If you mean that we should be salvaging them from routine abortions - maybe, but certainly in a way that does not benefit the "donor", but still only occurs with their consent - again, as long as we don't end up encouraging it, IMO, this is better then destroying it.

If you mean that it would be ok to intentionally get pregnant then abort to harvest these, then no (but this is probably too diabolical to occur at any rate).

No, we cannot allow it to become a market. There can be no incentive, monetary or otherwise to the "donor". Consent must be required. Like organ donors, you can say "yah I don't mind if this is used to help someone else" but you can't get paid for it, otherwise people will do it on purpose.

The idea is that thousands of fetuses WILL be aborted, should they be thrown away or used for medical stem cell research. I vote they should be utilized since they would otherwise be trashed.

Happily though, the whole issue is temporary. Ultimately, we will figure out how to make stem cells - and this will be a glorious day when medicine will become like magic.

Dang, I sound like a religious nut, bowing down to the altar of science. But "miracles" are possible when we can master the stem cell.

Take that Jesus! Yah stem cells really are magic, it is the holy grail of science. I can't wait to see how they suppress it so that they can keep selling us these temporary bandages.

The whole world will change, the whole dynamic of everything and population will start getting more out of control. We can grow any organ, heart attacks may become a thing of the past, handicapped will be fully functional, ER's will be less busy because wounds can be healed in hours instead of days or weeks. Once we master stem cells, cancer will be no longer a problem, since all cancer is in essence is a bunch of stem cells with no programming reproducing out of control into giant meaningless clumps of cells (tumors). Once we figure how to turn them off it's all easy street.

In theory, stem cells could heal cirtually any disease once we master them, as being able ot regenerate a helathy version of any cell means curing almost any ailment. No more war vets without legs etc.


(and your right, we'll get better at mastering adult stem cells or figure out how to grow out own and then it's easy street since the supply will not be as finite, it is then that magic becomes reality)


I am 24, they already have done wonders with stem cells in labs, it has just yet to be implemented into the commercial market on any meaningfull scale. But surely in the next 60 years they will have mastered it (I hope so, because I aint quitting drinking anytime soon lol)

Imagine how the world would change though? If drug users wouldn't have the deterent of knowing their kidneys will rot, but rather be replaced by healthy new ones? It would take away the incentive to live healthy and would strip the government of it's argument that we must tax everything that is bad for our bodies. It could change the world more than any single technology ever has.

This and Lazer's comment, were along the lines of what I was thinking. Just think of all the bodies we'd have to work with if we did like the red Chinese and harvested until the 100th trimester. Life is so much easier without having for worry about silly things like morality and the sanctity of life. Maybe we could make lamp shades with the left over skin?

You guys, we are talking about people voluntarily donating something from their body that is of a medical value to another human being. We are not talkin about harvesting organs of prisoners or killing babies to accomplish this. I do not support abortion, in my family we do not have abortions, however we live in a country where it is legal and therefore we have a lot of potentially life saving stem cells ridden fetuses going into the trash. I just think we should put that to use for good. Someday technology will fill the gap and it won't be needed, but right now adult stem cells just do not have the same power as fetus stem cells.

THEN, offer these people GOOD toothbrushes, 6 mo. supply of mouthwash and toothpaste..no more of those crappy Crest toothbrushes and trial-sized products!! Sorry..guess I am a little pissed at my dentist for filling my cavities with amalgram when the silver stuff would have been sufficient and then booted me out the door with a crappy toothbrush and a $300 bill! I just felt raped (financially) that day..RANT DONE, thanks for listening..

I would not be surpised that after 30 years they tell us the toothpaste was actually creating cavities and making your teeth fall out.
