Lol, Tom you would get your news directly from the Korean Central News Agency. In response to bsd, I have noticed that Pravda seems to be more to the right than much of the American media, how the hell is that possible?

Also, in past polls here didn't it result in more conservatives than liberals? Maybe I am forgetting but I don't feel there is a liberal bias here at all, for the most part people are libertarian types (either left or right) or independents from what I gather. Not that it really matters, we're all a bunch of cool dudes wasting time on the internet. Doesn't need to be that serious.

Interesting report, thanks for clarifying your sentiment. I believe the Che/Castro references were from two individuals, and I must have missed the Pelosi talk, although I definitely recall a picture. That someone was touting Nancy Pelosi on this forum is definitely a surprise lol. In any case, nice quote sgreger: "Not that it really matters, we're all a bunch of cool dudes wasting time on the internet. Doesn't need to be that serious." F^*K'n-A right we're cool dudes, and more often than not we are indeed wasting time. I like it though.

        A lurker's perspective

I've been lurking in these forums for quite some time now and found it an invaluable asset for me when making the transition from a heavy smoker to a full-time snus user. I started with the free tin of Camel SNUS, had my curiosity aroused, hit Google, found this site and started my transition from smoker to snuser. There is nothing new or compelling about my story but the very mundane nature of it speaks to the true value of this venue...helping to highlight another option that is available to fellow nicotine addicts/users/whatever that doesn't carry the same long term impact of more well known and more commonly used tobacco products.

As a long time reader, I've often run across posts that piqued my interest and have felt the desire to create an account, join the community and respond. I've always talked myself out of these actions, however, because I've been alienated by the harsh political rhetoric that is frequently on display at snuson. In an effort to rise above the typical arguments, I won't mention the specifics of the posts or posters but I wanted it to be known that potential community members are being driven away by the tone of the political conversation here, which has only become more strident since the election of Obama. There are a multitude of forums available for me to talk politics but only one decent one that focuses on the US snus user. It would behoove all of you (and benefit me, as well) if the extreme political talk could be taken somewhere where it is more appropriate. Honestly, I have been visiting this site less and less as the most active conversations seem to have shifted to stilted political views rather than snus and its users.

Let me make it perfectly clear that each and every time i'm on snuson I am, in fact, wasting time and nothing else lol.

Thanks for posting that cthulu23, and welcome to the forum. I hope you stick around. I will only speak for myself, but yes I frequently make an ass of myself and often forget the hidden multitudes who are my temporary audience for such blather. But I do enjoy the opportunity to discuss issues not related to snus with a "peer group" far more diverse than the people I physically encounter on a day-to-day basis.

Welcome to the community Cthulu, though like you said you've been here all along. To explain why politics is discussed here, the main reason is that we are all buddies of a sort and have been active in this community for usually a year or more. This means that a lot of us have kind of ran out of things to say about snus and sometimes like to discuss other things tobacco using men like to discuss, such as women and politics. You are correct in saying that there are much better venues to discuss such things but since our little group here seems to enjoy each others company, it ends up with us staying here to talk about it.

Please don't feel alienated, as you are of course welcome to stay out of the People and the world around us section, though I think you would enjoy some of the random shit we discuss here, which often times is not political but anything from science to whether or not you have shit your pants recently, or even alcohol.

We have discussed the undeniable fact that many of our users don't like to talk politics and may feel alienated, and perhaps our mods can come up with something to fix that (such as not having the people and world around us posts populate in the "newest posts" scroller at the top of the page).

Unfortunately cthulu, in the current state of things, politics is a heated topic in many circles and is more in the spotlight today than it was in previous years, so more people are discussing it in groups that normally would have a different purpose. This is kind of how things work and there will be thoe who like it and those who don't. I don't dip anymore so I stay out of the dip section of the forum, I suggest those that don't like politics stay out of the people and world around us section.

Congratulations on finally making an account and joining the #1 snus forum, please try not to be alienated because demo or rep, we all love
                our snus around here!

Hi, Welcome! Nice nic! I've been working through the complete works of Lovecraft for the last month - very good, I wish I had found him earlier. I enjoy the cthulu/necronomicon/elder ones mythos that winds through the collection of his work.

potential community members are being driven away by the tone of the political conversation here, which has only become more strident since the election of Obama.
Check the archives. 2008 or so. Plenty of strident political conversation back then too - it was just flipped more in the "OMG Palin is an Idiot" and "LOL, GWB is a monkey" direction.

Honestly, I have been visiting this site less and less as the most active conversations seem to have shifted to stilted political views rather than snus and its users.
Well... Once all your questions are answered for the moment. And you've posted to the "What's in your mouth?" and "Finished another can" threads a thousand times, the conversation tends to shift.

Maybe we really need more features... If we could limit some forums to members and then allow members to filter (ignore) based on thread this would help...

Introducing my new non-serious avatar. Hope others enjoy it as much as I did. It's hard to be lighthearted when discussing mass murderers.

To the noob who is unhappy with the posts. I can empathize. But seriously, the posts titled "Israelis Attack Ship" and "Obama's Impeachment" are likely political discussions. You should probably not click those links. Rather, you should click the ones that say something like "My Top 5 Snuses". You'll be happier. I'm well aware of other sites, I frequent some. Some are filled with so much intelligent commentary, I rarely chime in. Here, we had a few posts offering fallacious positions a grade schooler could rip apart and they begged for rebuttal.
