Well, now that it's been over a year since I last posted the above quote, I finally started DE shaving. It all came in the mail this week. A Merkur HD 34C, Merkur blades (Feather blades when I'm more confident), Edwin Jagger shaving soap, and a Tweezerman's badger hair brush.
So far, I am ecstatic! No more red bumps on my neck and I can't help but to run my hand over my face during the day as I am so impressed with how baby smooth it is. As many on here have said, I actually look forward to shaving now! Maybe the "newness" will wear off, but for now the whole experience is really enjoyable and fun.
I'm curious to see how long the Tweezerman brush holds up due to it being so affordable. So far I'm pleased with the Edwin Jagger soap, but I have no other soaps to compare it to.
Congrats on making the switch, the first few weeks are sometimes a little rough, although still better than cartridge shaving ;-) Once you get to the point that you don't have to 'think' about blade angle and pressure, the shaves get so much better. Sounds like you have the right gear, and don't be afraid of the Feathers...I was too at first, but found them to be my favorite blade. The definitely deserve respect though. THe way I see it is, when cutting vegetables you want the sharpest knife possible, right? Same goes for hairs on our faces ;-) Regarding the Tweezerman brush...I've had one for about 6 months now and used it everyday up until I bought a Simpson Colonel 2XL. The difference in the two brushes is ridiculous, and high end brushes are well worth the investment IMO. Sometimes I still use my Tweezerman though, just for giggles. Makes me appreciate the Simpson.
Good luck and if you have any questions....let me know. God knows when I first started DE shaving, I had a ton.

Thanks! Yeah, I'll probably I have to add a nice brush to my Xmas list. Simpson seems to be a brand that I've seen mentioned more than once.
Congratulations! Don't worry, you won't get tired of DE shaving. I have found my razor and blade combination so I am saving money with every shave. Just like snus, the only bad thing about DE shaving is the fact that you wish you would have found out about it years ago. If I ever win the lottery, I want to open a store that sells nothing but snus, DE razors and really good coffee.
I hacked the shit out of my face last week with my straight. I don't know what the problem was. I can count the times I've cut myself on 1 hand, and I've been using a straight for over 20 years. Last week I cut myself enough that it left a scab, I banged the razor on the mirror, and felt generally clumsy. I ended up just putting the razor down, and haven't shaved since :^D I'll probably give it a go tonight :^)

Next time try it with shaving cream and hot water.
I think I bought too many razors. I need to order more snus. My PRE - PACT stash is running dangerously thin.
I went off the deep end collecting razors. I don't have ingrown hairs or redness on my neck anymore though!! Plus I'm not wasting money on cartridges. I just have enough DE blades and safety razors to last five lifetimes..
I just bought a Stahly Live Blade. I should have bought a roll of GES or something. I'm nearly out of portions and have busted into my loose stash..
I use a muhle safety razor, feather blades(30 blades for 10 quid and does me for nearly 2 years,no brainer) mitchells wool fat shave soap, witch hazel, and an alum block followed up with some trumpers skinfood. Ive had the one bottle of trumpers skinfood for over two years now. I went through the same kinda hell most people go through when they discover a new and fun hobby.......buy as much crap as possible to the related hobby. Im taking about loads of soaps, creams, blades, aftershave balms, splashes, different razors, brushes, preshave oils, strops etc etc. I tried the straight razor for about a year and got fed up with the stropping and inconsistent shaves and traded it for a tattoo. As far as wet shaving goes its just something I do now and not a hobby, its no longer a chore shaving but not something I jump out of bed to do or do three times a day. The only thing Im intersted in as far as shaving goes is getting maby a little rotation of aftershaves like musgo real, floid, ogalala bay rum, lavandua, alt insbruck. Check out badgerandblade.com its a sea of information and really helpful guys and girls. Theyve also got there own snus section haha.

We are way ahead of you! Anyway, welcome to snuson and enjoy.

LOL...welcome to SnusOn dude, many of us have been members at B&B for some time now ;-) Now that I've found my working combination of razor, blades, creams, etc...I like to try new aftershaves. My favorite right now is Boosters, I highly recommend it
Ive heard boosters is great but the bottle just puts me off big time. Im a sucker for aesthetics and the boosters bottle just looks so cheap. No offence buddy. The italian floid bottle on the other hand looks slick as!
I used a DE straight razor for several years, now I use Gillette fusion pro-glide...
I get the best shave with that one, does good to get the perfect goatee.

Gillette Fusion over a DE? Thats like trying to take up smoking to quit snus. Did you play with different razor and blade combinations?

agreed the Booster's bottle is cheap, but the liquid gold inside more than makes up for it. Besides, I decant mine into really slick barbershop bottles. I've had all the various Floids, they can't touch Boosters IMO. I also like Ogallala Bay, but the wife can't stand bay rum scents. Still haven't figured her out, and I quit trying the second day I knew her...lol
I was doing some Christmas shopping today (Finished!) And at my last stop I was picking up a hat box at an antique store. It was just closing but the lady was nice and let me look at the razors she had.
I got a 1969 Gillette super speed in excellent condition for ten bucks.
I cleaned it and am going to use it tomorrow morning. I started with a Gillette (the crappy plastic handle ones that they sold more recently that I can't find anywhere these days) and can't wait to compare it to my current Merkur.
