I don't think the Wilkinson's will do it for you but you never know. Ebay has blades fairly cheap as well. I am wondering why WalMart dropped Personna as their products were somewhat decent and very inexpensive. Perhaps Personna paid their workers well or gave them medical benefits and that pissed WalMart off.

The Wilkinsons suck ass, IMHO. I'd rather buy my Feathers and Derby's online - 100 at a time. Don't understand what some are saying about Derby being dull - I use a DE on my head, straights on the face, and I get a good 7-8 headshaves with the derby's, loaded in a SuperSpeed. Seems I get more shaves out of a blade though with my '56, or my '57 SuperSpeeds than I do with my '64, or my Parker 22R. Don't know why, I just do.

On a (un?)related note - I have taken up straight razor restoration. If there's anyone interested in good, restored vintage straights at reasonable prices, just post here and I'll offer them up to you guys first.

      Right now I'm working on:

      6/8 Spike point - T. Hessen Bruch & Co.

5/8 Round point - Torrey Razor Co.

      5/8 Spike point - Wald

All are vintage German steel from Solingen(The best!).

Pics? Especially some before and after shots of your restorations would be a treat.

I'll definately have pics. Have a bunch of before pics, but haven't taken the after pics yet, as I'm still working on the final polishings. But let me tell you, when I get them they look like they've been at the bottom of the ocean for the last 70 years, LOL. As of now they look almost new, with a definate, shiny as hell, mirror finish. Some minor pits, etc etc if looked at under the right light, but I doubt you'll ever find a straight razor thats 100+ years old without some pitting/other imperfections....

I have seen some restorations on the B&B forum that were unbelievable. They literally took an old rusted piece of metal in made it look like new. Some of the old straights can fetch big bucks as well. I personally think the 7 days sets are kind of cool. How did you get into this? Did you work with metal before? I have a brother in law in HVAC and he is always making something neat. He used to make stuff like copper stove hoods but he tells me that most of that type of work is outsourced now unfortunately.

I've just done lots of things in the past - wood, metal, cars, bikes etc etc. Just very good with my hands naturally.

Just doing this as a little hobby- still pretty new at it- but it also earns me some extra funds to buy more razors, and SNUS! LOL Trying to keep all of my online purchases paying for themselves.

Just restoring the metal right now, and cleaning up the original scales to get them looking good. I figure if someone doesn't like the scales, they can buy a replacement of their choosing online for dirt cheap, or very expensive depending on the chosen scales, and replace them themselves. If I were to replace the scales I'd have to charge alot more than I want to....

Also, I personally would rather have the original scales over aftermarket anyday. Makes it more "authentic" IMHO.

And I'd rather see them go to you guys than some random "ebayer", thats the reason I bring it up...

I would definitely be interested in looking at some pics. This is an awesome thing to do, and I hope to restore my own razor at some point.

Heres a teaser of the Torrey. This is what they look like before I put many hours of carpal tunnel into them, lol. Right now believe it or not you can literally count your eyebrow hairs in this thing!

                  Before restore:

I was going through my Grandfathers old pipe collection, and found an old Gillette DE razor. Don't know what year its from but I imagine its older than I am, LOL. I bought so+e Wilkenson blades today and shaved with it tonight. I have to say it was the closest shave I've ever experienced. I may be hooked

IMO Wilkinson's are not so great and you will probably get an even better shave with another brand.

Rick, post a photo, and tell me the letter code under the head. There will be a letter on one side, and a number on the other side. I'll be able to tell you what year it is with that.

In my opinion, the Gillettes are the best shaving DE razors ever made!

And another DE convert? Awesome! Looks like there is only one person around here that just isn't man enough for these things......*coughcoughFrostedcough*

You old timers. What's the perceived benefit of disposable/cartridge razors? It seems that everyone who rediscovers DE razors loves them. What was the selling point when they came out? They're only marginally easier to take care of, and I'd think the higher cost would dissuade a lot of people from buying them. Straight-DE I can understand. DE-Disposable, not so much.

                            I fully agree.

Can't figure put how to post pic from my phone, but I found this pic and its identical to my razor.
The only writing on the underside of my razor is "reg us" then the letter "j" then "pat off 1" and then the Gillette logo in bottom left. I will post the actual pic tomorrow from my laptop.

Here's a link to an identical razor as mine. The only markings on mine are "reg us" them the letter "j" and then "pat off 1", then the Gillette logo in bottom left corner.
