Maybe I overlooked it in another thread, but what do you do for work? Sounds interesting.

Ah, using snus doesn't affect your taster? I'd think the salt could affect things more than the actual flavoring.

Not to the effect that a perfumed smell will and snus interferes a lot less than smoking did. Smell is a very important to tasting, and can be more effective in making sure certain flavors are balanced than the actual taste, but if you have a scent in your nose all that you taste will be tainted.

As for snus, I think the reason I am such a big fan of Gotland (besides the deliciousness) is that after I rinse it out, I do not get a strong lingering aftertaste. I always was sensitive to salt and before using snus, I used to have to "over salt" food according to my tastes, but now I have a slightly more "mainstream" palate for seasoning. I also only snuff on days off or after work. Never before.

I just picked up what looks to be an antique razor today at a grage sale. it is a geo. wostenholm original and genuine pipe razor. I looked on e-bay and saw a bunch. This one has a very plain wood handle tho with no markings or inscriptions.. Anybody know what I got? Or more importantly what it might actually be worth.

Don't know what it's worth. If the blade's straight, and rust free it should be a good shaver.

I am really interested in going to this method of shaving so hopefully my neck won't be broke out in red bumps anymore. I've looked online, and it seems like this stuff is just outrageously priced. Some of these shaving sets are going anywhere from 200-1000 dollars. Even just the plain straight razors are at least a hundred bucks! It's amazing that the same products that were dirt cheap back in the old days, like you when you see them getting a shave in those old westerns, has become products for the elite. Am I looking at the wrong websites?

Gilette Mach 3. Used since they came out, no need for a 20 blade razor, or anything else. It does the trick for me.

check garage sales. I just got lucky. Other than that there are a ton of razors on ebay. I'm just getting into this but I'm sure you can get a blade for around $10 bucks. it seems to me strops cost more than razors. Anyway the way I'm starting to look at it, is how much Have I spent on fusion blades in the last year? What is it 10 bucks for three. let's say you use 1 a week. that's that's almost $200 bucks a year. At least after you make the initial investment on a straight and strop, your pretty much done when it comes to hardware. like I said just getting into it, but in the long run it seems less expensive to me. my .02 once again....

it takes me a week to grow a 5 o'clock shadow when i shave and a bit over 2 weeks to grow a full moustache and chin beard when i do shave it off.

Kudos to all u gents who faithfully maintain your facial hair

You should go to badgerandblade.com. They are for DE/str8/wetshaving what this forum is for snus.

I got a shaving brush and a bic metal disposable (I had read somewhere that this disposable is comparable to a DE shave (not sure if its true)) from while I was grocery shopping today. If my rag-tag collection of low quality modern implements is anything like a DE or straight razor shave, I am on board.

Are there any national chains that sell things like straight and DE razors, so I can take this thing to the next level? I only ask about national chains, because I would like to try a cheap straight razor before dropping the coin on a nice one.

Funny I found this thread, the tobacconist shop I visit sells vintage shaving stuff and after watching a few videos on YouTube I might just get into it. Right now I use disposables and I really only shave 1-2x a week. My facial hair grows fast and I normally keep a full beard so a shave is really just to trim up the edges so I don't look like a train wreck when I show up to work.

I agree - I found lots of positive reviews for Merkur razors but they are a bit much. If I liked DE shaving I would pay it but I would like to try it first before popping 50 bucks for a DE razor. Also, I am wondering if DE razors are so fantastic and environmentally friendly, why did the majority of people stop using them? I can find the DE blades everywhere but not the razor itself.

http://www.classicshaving.com/catalo...41/4514238.htm $25 for a DE handle.. replacement blades ar $1.50 a pack. That's a pretty good intro price IMO.
