Sprint EVO 4G Phone - Very Nice!

I have been an iPhone user since day one (about 3 years now) but today decided to go to the dark side and get the new Sprint EVO 4G phone. I am so used to the iPhone that it will take a bit of getting used to Android but so far I am liking it. I am attending TechEd next week in New Orleans (thank God for snus!) so I will give it a run for the money and see how it holds up. Of course I will still have my iPhone with me just in case.

The screen is bigger than the iPhone and seems to be clearer. It has an HDMI output and the phone/data plan is definitely better than AT&T's. Plus it has a removable battery and uses a micro-SD card (so memory isn't an issue). I know there are only about 30k Android apps compared to the 300k iPhone apps, but I only use so many anyway.

So far the main complaint I have seen about it is the short battery life. I am used to the long life of the iPhone and even longer for the iPad so it is something I will really be sensitive to.

I will post back here periodically with my feelings and thoughts on the device but bear in mind since this is my first HTC or Android phone I will not be able to compare to other Android models, only to the iPhone.

I've used both the iPhone (for about a year) and a few android phones, along with a lot of other phones.

And for a toyish OS like the iPhone, Android blows it out of the water.

I recently (about 6 months ago) went to blackberry and have gotten addicted. I'm highly anticipating the arrival of the Blackberry 9800 with the new OS.

The new iPhone comes out this month as well btw.

I'm coming from Win Mobile & the OS blows WM clear out of the water. Amazingly fast, and after 3 days have had absolutely no glitches at all. The phone itself is like the other HTC's I ve had, very well built. I've done the usual battery tweaking, shutting off 4G scanning when in 3G areas,Wi-Fi,BT etc and so far the battery life seems comparable if not better than my Touch Pro/TP2. Its cool to be able to look & see what apps/processes are draining your battery and then adjust accordingly. I'm totally sold on the phone & OS.

I am so behind in technology, but I like it that way. I buy a phone for one purpose and one purpose only, to talk to people. I always dread having to buy a new phone. Those obnoxious AT&T sales reps go on and on and on about all these features...e-mail, internet, streaming music, streaming movies, run your own EKG, launch shuttles from the NASA pad, etc.... The look on their face is priceless when I ask them if they have any phones without all that junk on it. Hell, if it does all of that, it's not exactly a telephone anymore. It's a friggin' mobile command center! If my employer didn't have to send me pages in the form of text messages I would just buy one of those box phones from Wal-Mart.

I don't even own a mobile phone let alone a command center. So I'm with you nonserviam. that is all.

That's because Windows Mobile is 10 years behind.

ive been an iPhone user for 3 years.......jailbroken and unlocked...im on tmobile. i recently picked up a moto cliq. i ended up returning it 5 days later.

i could not get used to the fact that it does not work well with outlook. the iphone worked very well with outlook.

so i retured the cliq and got the HTC HD2.....very good phone..the OS sucks. so i installed a custom rom and now the phone works great.

              I like the HD2 alot...but...for me...the iPhone is better.

HD2 operating system sucks. The Motorola Cliq didn't integrate Android efficiantly.

If you want to try an android phone you have to get a high quality one, such as the nexus one, evo, etc.

Why would a phone need HDMI output?

I'm all for moving along, getting with the times, I love my iPhone and everything - but I think that's a bit much

Been curious of this myself. My experience has been with WM exclusively. I'm with Verizon Wireless and would like to keep it that way as I get a 20% business discount... Would the "Droid" or "Incredible" be decent? Of course I still have several months till my 'upgrade' benefit.

                      Currently have a Samsung Omnia.

LaZer I had a comparison chart showing the Evo,Incredible and Droid but it seems to have disappeared into bookmark limbo. I think the Droids a great phone but I'd go with the Incredible myself as it pretty much beats the Droid on all counts, processor (1 ghz Snapdragon vs 670 mhz? on the Droid) more internal memory, amoled screen etc. I don't think they've been able to root it yet though. I wait for Froyo anyway before I do anyway as I like Sense. I'm curious though as to whether a "Droid2" will be out soon since I read that they're dropping the price on the Droid drastically like $97 at Walmart. Check out

A year ago I cancelled my internet service at home. The only Internet I've had has been my iphone. Now I have the ipad 3g and I'm in heaven!
You just cannot beat the iPhone....and the new update will be amazing!

and all the money I saved on internet service went directly into my snus stash : )
