So, what's the general consensus here on evolution?

First, I'd rather this didn't turn into a flame war, so if anyone must debate, remember, keep it civil. If this starts on the path towards a flame war, I'll report the thread to the mods for locking myself.

That said, what's everybody's opinion on it here? Good, scientific theory, or bunk created by evil boffins trying to lead the world into anarchy and endless, immoral orgies with their godless ideas? Personally, being the non-religious sciencey sort and having done half a biology degree before changing majors, I think it looks fairly solid myself. It could be wrong, and parts of it will doubtlessly have to be modified before it's close to perfect, but I find it more believable than any creation story involving all the worlds animals suddenly appearing, all perfectly formed. So, good theory, or were people made by a deity in your eyes, or maybe malevolent space chickens planted us here to return and enslave us for worm harvesting in their galactic domination plans?

^ what that guy said. even though if you are religious you should just accept evolution and say God made evolution possible. solves the problem of people going back and forth about it

My grandmother used to say "I won't believe I'm descended from monkeys, that ridiculous and disgusting." as if scientists said that for no reason other than to offend her personal dignity.

To take it even further...saw a Nova special a while back, it talked about if you really research far enough back, we have evolved from fish! No wonder I drink like one!

Yeah, about halfway through the song I started thinking "something tells me he's done singing about evolution".

My guess, is the general consensus favors evolution. Many see it at "proven" and "settled" science. But, it is not and unfortunately is often offered as such. Evolution is no more proven than man made global warming. Those who state their intention is to "restore science to it's rightful place" imply that science was somehow ignored or neglected, because others disagree with their conclusions, drawn from faulty logic, bad studies and flawed data. I'm no expert on the subject, but those who favor evolution and claim to be unaware of scientific or sound logical arguments refuting evolution should pick up some of the writings of Ann Coulter or Ben Stein. IMO, they are two of the brightest (and most underrated) minds in modern society and both have spoken, at length, on the topic. Both have also spoken of their faith in a creator. It is impossible to prove faith. You either have it, or you don't. IMO - Perhaps the best argument to be made in favor of creation, is intelligent design. Stein, Coulter and others cover this topic as well. I'd recommend anyone honestly in search of truth, do themselves a favor and read on this topic as well.

but, but, but..... Kirk Cameron said proof of a creator is in bananas! He says you shouldn't use your head but your heart!
                          LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Evolution shouldn't be a question, when it clearly is an answer.

Thank you, Thank you, I'll be here all week.

Most likely man was created by God. But I've met some women that I'm pretty sure evolved from fish. [if you know what I mean]

But it could be that God was created by man. And women have evolved to take everything from man.

no matter what...........when we die we will all experiance a slow reverse evolution.
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

I posted this under the "conservative hate mail" thread earlier. But actually, I think it's more appropriate here. If you already saw it, sorry, but for those that haven't, here is a word from Bill Hicks- Of course in today's litigious society, I should include this: THE FOLLOWING CONTAINS MATERIAL THAT MAY BE INAPPROPRIATE FOR YOUNG VIEWERS. VIEWER DISCRETION IS ADVISED.
