General Bell: McChrystal Needs To Go

I am glad the General spoke out and said what he said and I agree with him and all that but at the end of the day, we are talking about a soldier who went to the media and made comments about the commander in chief. Even if some lowly private did this he would get an article 15 or a dishonerable discharge.
Even though im' sure Obama will fire him because he doesn't like him, this kind of action is not to be tolerated from people in the rank of General. If there is some scandal, he can legally blow the whistle, but just making off the wall comments about how you think the prez is a clown during a roling stone interview is going to get you in trouble.
The thing is, he had to have known this. I suspect this was calculated and done on purpose. But who knows.

We can't fire him. Period.
What he did is light treason and should be punished but not taken out of action.
If Obama is smart he would reprimand him and maybe dock some pay then move on.
McDumbass sidebar:
You dumb motherfugger, keep shit like this in house or at least away from the media. We don't pay you for your political opinions.

LOLOOLOL! I thought the exact same thing this morning when I was listening to the radio.
We got this brief plenty of times in the army, you are a soldier and have forfeit your right to free speech. You may not speak with the press about issues, and you are especially not allowed to badmouth the commander in chief.
I was leaving right as Obama got elected, there was like a trillion anti-obama bumper stickers on cars all over Ft bragg and they had to issue this whole briefing about how anything of political nature or that badmouthed Obama was verboten and you would get an article 15 if you displayed any such items on your person or car etc.
Im sure Mccrystal is right and I know it's nice to hear important people stand up to our rookie in chief, but rules are rules and he is not paid (with my tax money) to be doing rolling stones interviews, nor is he paid for his political opinion.
Obama will play this smart, he knows the right will never let this go if he courtmarshals the general. He will probably ask him to resign and allow him to keep his pension etc.

Update
US general in Afghan war at risk of losing his job
by anne gearan and jennifer loven, associated press writers | june 22, 2010
WASHINGTON—President Barack Obama rebuked his Afghanistan war commander for "poor judgment" Tuesday and considered whether to fire him in the most extraordinary airing of military-civilian tensions since Harry Truman stripped Gen. Douglas MacArthur of his command a half-century ago.
Gen. Stanley McChrystal is prepared to submit his resignation at a meeting with Obama on Wednesday at the White House, two military officials said, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly.

Can Obama afford to fire McChrystal?
Success of Afghan offensive trumps 'firing offense,' some analysts say
...relieving McChrystal of his command on the eve of a major offensive in Kandahar, which White House and Pentagon officials have said is the most critical of the war, would be a major blow to the war effort, said military experts. The president has set a July 2011 deadline to begin withdrawing troops from Afghanistan, creating massive pressure on the military and McChrystal to make progress in stabilizing Afghanistan this summer and fall when troop levels are at their peak.
...Much of McChrystal's career was spent in the military's secretive special operations community, which has little experience dealing with the press and often views outsiders — even those within the military — with suspicion. Some of the most damaging statements in the Rolling Stone article were from McChrystal's staff officers, who are also drawn heavily from the special operations community.

Frankly there is like what, 1 quote in there that was actually from the general? All the others were from his aids and I don't feel they were that bad.
He will be forced to resign over this. But this just shows you that Obama cares more about people not making him look bad than fighting this war (I mean, in the middle of the Kandahar offensive, really?). Either that or he just is an old school by the books type leader and wants the general punished just to make sure no one does it again.
I still say that while im glad Mcchrystal did this it was kind of a dick move, I mean he knew what would happen, he knew Obama would be put in a tight situation and forced to make a lose/lose choice and that is what he has accomplished. He probably wanted out anyways. The war is a mess and it must be stressfull for him. Time to retire.
