With all the scum and low life criminals I see on the news everyday, I can't imagine being a cop, and then having very large and vocal pro-crime elements that are even pandered to by the media and government, I'd wonder why I am doing this. Yes, being able to actually help a good citizen, I can imagine it being worthwhile, but the rest would ruin it for me. All these crims the so-called justice system coddles and babies, I think most of them should be taken out back and shot.

Tulsa is the largest city in NE Okla. and their population is about 400,000.
As far as if I like my job. Well, it's like any job. It has it's up and downs. Pay is decent. Benefits/Insurance are great and I can retire when I'm 46. About 85% of the job is paperwork. Lots of typing and lots of reports. The other 15% is the fun stuff. They say this job is long periods of boredom interrupted by moments of sheer terror. You sometimes find yourself exhausted at the end of the day after dealing with people who have created their own problems due to immaturity, irresponsibility, and poor decision making. The real rewards are when you can help those who are truly innocent. I look to move to the detective division after a few more years on the streets so I can get a small break from the everyday reminder of just how farked up people really are.
With all that said, I probably wouldn't do anything else. My childhood dream of being a rockstar never materialized, so here I am. If interested, I recommend doing some ride alongs, or spending sometime as a reserve officer to see if it's to your liking. Of course, every day when you kiss your wife and child goodbye before heading out the door, the thought crosses your mind....was it the last time, am I coming back.
Thanks for the info. My aun't a sheriff and I have a few friends who became cops, most of them seem to like it. San Francisco is just ****ing whacky though, there are so many people that there is no room in jail so if you do anything short of murder someone you have to let them go. If you get caught smoking crack you get let go, if you walk intoa restaurant and punch the store owner chic in the face you have to let them go etc. That would be my only gripe is that it seems like police are all but useless in San Fran lol. Mainly they are just used to start around and guard the gay pride parades.
I would get to have a concealed carry permit which is otherwise impossible to get in CA.
Here they pay I think it's 65-67,000 starting and theres a lot of room to move around and get paid more. I make 40k right now so it would be a significant raise. I have no college and my options of ever making more than 40k are limited so that is why I was thinking maybe police force. Plus I think I would love to do it. What hours do you guys work? Here I think it's like 4 days on and 3 days off or something.

Tulsa does four ten hour days. I do twelve hour days. 3 one week. 4 the next week. Twelve hour days suck, but the three and four day weekends are NICE. All medium to large departments here require either an associate's degree or a bachelor's degree. I have no idea what the requirements are in CA. The medium to large departments here start pay at about 40K. Of course, cost of living is higher in California so departments there pay more than here, but it's all the same difference.
