Haven't read too much of the replies on this thread (way too many) but what I can say, is depression is a clincial disorder, but there is much you can do to avoid some of the depressing feelings. Ready? Have a "Fu** IT!" attitude. Everybody on this planet has gone through stuff like that. The only thing you can do is say, I'm still alive, I have a roof over my head, and there are people on this earth that love you. I'm 24, got laid off, lost my apartment, got my car reposessed, my gf was abusive, I have a lot of debt, had to move in with my mom (temporarily) got a low paying $8.00/hr hotel job.... this is stuff all of us go through, and the only thing that helps me, is not giving a shit. The ONLY thing you can do is be the best you can, out perform this a-hole at work, and F*** Bit**** they are all controlling at some point. We are an individualistic self empowering egotisitic nation and we can ALL get through this stuff as long as we have the confidence in ourselves to do EVERYTHING WE CAN to get by and succeed. As long as you KNOW you are doing everything in your power to make your life what it needs to be. Forget everything else. As long as you stay true to yourself, everything WILL work out, eventually. Hang in there people.

Wonder if Ibuprofen (Advil, etc) would have the same effect?
Might be worth pursuing and would sure make for cheaper therapy
in some cases, especially in the earliest stages of depression.

Acetaminophen and NSAID Toxicity

"Acetaminophen and NSAID Toxicity
Over-the-counter (OTC) drugs are a significant source of morbidity and mortality in the United States. Although the shelves of every major drug store and grocery store are heavily stocked with these common medications—and they are used millions of times every day—few people are aware of the dangers posed by common OTC medications, especially acetaminophen and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen and naproxen. Acetaminophen and NSAIDs commonly cause serious liver and gastrointestinal side effects, yet most people have no idea how dangerous they can be."

Don't know about those meds; but if the meds aren't helping you, after giving them a fair chance, then they're hurting you. I stopped taking some meds my doctor was prescribing to me for hot flashes because they weren't stopping the hot flashes at all and my hair was falling out by handfuls. So I'm still having hot flashes but I'm not going bald anymore.
Good decision with the fiance thing. If it's never-ending battles now, imagine what it would be like living with that person! Better to live alone than put up with that every day.
You're on the right track to taking care of yourself, which is what you need to do. Never trust anyone unless they've totally earned your trust at work. And even then, look over your shoulder because people are funny. Keep your friends close, but keep your enemies closer.

tom502, I know this sounds silly, but taking a walk or riding a bike really helps me. Exercise releases good chemicals into the brain that just make you feel better all day long. The trouble is to do it every morning, before you eat breakfast. It means waking up earlier so that you have time to exercise, which is hard when you're in the pits and can barely function, but please, try it. Get up early enough to take a walk or ride a bike for at least ten minutes. You'll notice the difference in how you feel the very first day. I skipped two days of exercising this weekend, but I got back on track this morning.
