Mel Gibson is a great actor indeed. He's also a DEEPLY flawed man. The man has serious racial issues, that I cannot abide. And yet, I still like Mad Max.

That dude is completely nuts. That seems to be common amongst more gifted actors, though. It helps you play someone else if you have absolutely no idea who you are to begin with. I think I'm gonna watch Lethal Weapon and drink a sixer of the banquet while I ponder this conundrum.

It does seem to be one of the stranger things in life -- talent doesn't have anything to do with self-development or morality. It may have something to do with a research study I read recently that said the genes for genius and for mental illness are very closely related. Gibson is a very talented actor, but obviously a very disturbed person. Should be an object lesson for us all -- fame and money won't make you happy or even sane.
