Truthwolf. If the war had started just a few short years later, would would have allied with the Nazis to defeat Russia since we went through a period of "anti-communism" crazziness and defeating the commies was above all else, including morality or siding with evil people, selling drugs etc. If WWII had happened later, we would have sided with the Nazi's, the concentration camps would have been burned to hide the evidence, and the history books would read a very different way.

But since Germany lost, of course it must be portrayed as though ther was some supreme evil which we valiantly exterminated, being the good summeritans we are.

Disclaimer: Not saying what Germany did wasn't a supreme evil, but evil is very relitive. Is not anyone involved in a war evil? They kill innocents, allow collateral damage to even their own forces to win the objective, bend the rules of morality and enslave or imprisson people in Gulags. I mean even the US rounded up all of the Japanese into detention camps at one point, are we not evil for this?

This is why I don't feel bad for the muslims in Guantanamo bay. They get nice rooms, a koran, a prayer rug, a dietician choosing their meals, medical staff on hand, and all they had to endure was some waterboarding. The japanese did not have these luxuries when we imprisoned them, yet I hear not a peep from the asian community speaking of some injustice we commiteed that must be repayed, I do not see Japanese people bombing buildings and marketplaces. Because things of this nature are the direct biproduct of war, and to think that we have somehow risen above this standard to some higher moral ground where we read miranda rights to every soldier we capture or treat them with the utmost respect is a false concept that we and everyone else just plays for the media and the public at large. Anyone who thinks torture is going away under this administration is completely abstained from reality.

I hear you on that. Whenever I talk to people about how gramps was fighting with the Germans to acheive a free Latvia I sometimes get some reactions that are almost culturally instilled as evil as no evil. That's why I stand with he who wins gets first choice of how history will be written. There were atrocities on all sides, even ours.
The baltics are pretty much just cleaning up after years of occupation and have been quite successful. The place looks completely different from the first time I was there in 92. There is a grudge from the past and they would like the world to hear about it. Just like the Jews or anybody else.

What will happen with the Russian population there that does not want to adapt to the changes? I dont know? but a good guess is a permanent welfare class. The one's that do adapt will have the best of the European Union and Russia.

                Thanks, Krahv.
My parents escaped from Latvia during WW2 and I am American but culturally identify heavily with being Latvian.
I would do anything to be sitting in a Tallinn beer garden today.

Why is nationalism considered bad? In that video above, it's used like a dirty word, and it seems like it always used that way. I don't see any problem with country before all. Just because the world's setup the game, it doesn't mean I have to play.

Nationalism is great, and I think America has fallen because it's taken on an anti-Nationalism, liberal welfare international socialism path.

                      Wow.

Just finished reading through this entire thread. What a fantastic read.

The back and forth between Joe and krahv reads like a novel. Slow beginning, action heats up in the middle, and finally a sort of resolution in the end.

                      Can't wait for the movie.

Don't get too excited. I heard M. Night Shamylan (**** spelling that stupid name) will be directing it.
