Porn may be illegal or seriously limited in the future (similar to the UK). The Republicans and Democrats are both against it, so porn's future isn't looking too bright.

The day porn can't be found on the IntertubeZ is the day the Internets die off.

So they try to take our snus... now our porn... what the **** is next? To hell with this country. I'd renounce my citizenship and move to Sweden today if it weren't for my wife and kids.

Sorry, i have a totally different opinion on this subject. I dont care whether porn exists or not but the gd internet makes me want for it to disappear. Its all fun and games until i go to search games for my kid to play only with porn popping up on the screen. Although, i dont think it needs to go away 100%, i would just like to see a little more discretion. How about verifying age before allowing for 'previews' of a site? No boobies should be shown without determing age via credit card. Back before i had a kid who wanted to go onlne, i could have cared less. Sorry if this found some haters, but just my opinion. Now disregard this and go enjoy your porn.

An official online red-light district is one step closer to reality, as the ICANN board approves a .xxx top-level domain.

Adult content may soon have its own section of the Internet: the board of the International Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has approved a proposal from ICM Registry to create a .xxx top-level domain explicitly for online adult content and pornography. The approval is the latest move in a years-long process to create an online red-light district in the Internet’s global domain system…and comes after an independent review found that ICANN’s previous decision not to approve a .xxx domain was wrong.

ICANN is the governing authority for the top-level domains (TLDs) like .com and .net, country-code specific domain (like .uk and .jp), and certifies domain registrars to offer domains for sale within those TLDs, as well as manage the day-to-day operation of those TLDs. Unlike country code TLDs, the .xxx domain was proposed under ICANN’s procedures for sponsored TLDs; other sponsored TLDs include domains like .name, .coop, .mobi, and .aero. The approval comes after ICANN tabled a decision on the .xxx domain last March.

                  .....
Proposals to create a .xxx domain date all the way back to 2000; and were rejected in 2000, 2006, and 2007.
                  Kinda...

SAN FRANCISCO — What if the Web held a sex party and no one showed up?

That’s what could happen now that the agency governing the Internet address system all but approved the creation of a new red-light district on the Web. The problem is that some of the biggest names in online pornography prefer not to be in that neighborhood.

I can understand this to some extent, but you're really willing to start locking people up who make the stuff because you had a kid and don't know how to filter the internet?

It's the free flow of information, good and bad. Letting your kid have free roam on the internet, even with the age verifications, would be a bad idea for many other reasons. Rather than restricting everyone else to meet your needs, perhaps you can look to other ways.

I'm getting to the point where I need a filter in my own home. I have the same problem with my kids. I can't even let them loose on YouTube. Try and search for some short kid videos and you might find Dora the Explorer overdubbed with some saucy conversations. It was funny the first time I saw it but the kids would think it's real. Terrible. So far, we're pretty much avoiding technology. I think that once the kids get a DS or something of the like there's no turning back. Right now we're still having fun on the swings...kicking soccer balls...playing catch...playing tag...snowball fights and getting free DVDs from the library. I fear the day will come when we might actually own two televisions.

Now there are plenty of filters available some free and some require payment. I'm sure there not 100% effective but I'd like to think that I can control it to a good degree. Now if I could only control my own attraction to the stuff...
