Female priest as bad as paedophiles, according to Church

You can probably find this on whatever news source you prefer, but here is the NY Times piece on it. The Roman Catholic Church has passed new church laws that allow allegations of abuse to be tried faster by the church, and allow for a church investigation to start 20 years after the abuse occurred, or 20 years after the 18th birthday of the victim. Bundled in with this was another change to ecclesiastic law that makes ordaining a women as a priest as grave a crime in the eyes of the Vatican as paedophilia, though. Both the women ordained and the bishops who ordained them would be immediately excommunicated if the church found them guilty of the procedure. Seems a bit unfair, comparing female priests to paedophiles on a moral scale. Surely the second is much worse than the first, I would think.

Meh... I give as much credence to the incoherent ramblings of the Catholic church as I do Charles Manson. I spent 10 years in that system, and leaving it was one of my top life choices.

My parents tried to raise me Catholic, but I got kicked out in 9th grade. True story.

I was willing to just stay until I got confirmed and drop out, as my parents wanted. But I'd go to CCD and , "Look, I don't believe in this, but clearly you do. I'm going to read my novel in the back, and you're not going to pester me asking my why I know god exists or other bollocks like that. In return, I'll keep my sarcastic comments to myself and stay quiet and won't be disruptive." But apparently the CCD teachers found this too much to ask of me, so every week I'd be treated to "Tohno, what's happened that's proven to you that god exists?" which would be met "I've told you I don't believe in him, leave me be." Eventually the nun in charge told my mother I was no longer welcome. I count that as an accomplishment, seeing as it's rather hard to get kicked out of the Roman Catholic Church.

That's much better than my exit. I went to Catholic school from k-8, then a year at CCD. I finally told my parents I wasn't going anymore. I don't remember my exact argument, but I'm sure it revolved around it being a pointless waste of time seeing as I didn't buy a bit of it. I imagine they were disappointed, but I don't remember it being a big drama or anything.

[QUOTE=shikitohno;311987] The Roman Catholic Church has passed new church laws that allow allegations of abuse to be tried faster by the church, and allow for a church investigation to start 20 years after the abuse occurred, or 20 years after the 18th birthday of the victim.

It,s a disgrace the abuse the catholic church has has been involved with in Ireland and worldwide. I was raised catholic, but am sickened by what i,ve seen in the media and have no time for religion anymore, full stop. I know not all priests are bad.... but the one,s involved in abuse, and there are many, should all be f*****g castrated.

My favorite priest was a huge Italian guy. I can't remember his name anymore, but I liked him a lot. He smoked tons of cigarettes. It goes to show, no matter where you are, tobacco people are the best people :^)

                        Philosophy deals with unanswered questions.
                        Religion deals with unquestioned answers.

                        I am a recovered Ex-Catholic
