DoD loses $8.7 billion of 9.1 billion Iraq Developement fund

Lol, the DoD lost 8.7 billion of 9.1 billion in money designated for Iraq developement. They said it was because of bad accountability policies and the recommendation is to make new accountability rules so they don't "make this mistake again" going forward. Rofl, only in the federal government can you lose track of $8.7 billion and no one get fired. Instead they just decide to draft a new policy going forward. The level of incompetence this shows is breathtaking to say the least, but not surprising even in the slightest.

Guys, snuson needs to secure a defense contract. Something like providing tobacco education for Iraqi children or building churches or something. Then take 9 billion$ and split it between the senior members. We can do this guys, this is our chance.

The Defense Department is unable to account for $8.7 billion of the $9.1 billion in Development Fund for Iraq monies in received for reconstruction in Iraq. This according to a study published today by the Special Inspector General for Iraq Reconstruction.

"This situation occurred because most DoD organizations receiving DFI (Development Fund for Iraq) funds did not establish the required Department of the Treasury accounts and no DoD organization was designated as the executive agent for managing the use of DFI funds," the report states.
The Special Inspector General for Iraq Reconstruction (SIGIR) finds that only one Defense organization actually set up the accounts required by the Treasury.

"The breakdown in controls left the funds vulnerable to inappropriate uses and undetected loss," SIGIR says.

The study recommends that the Secretary of Defense create new accounting and reporting procedures to avoid such mistakes in the future. It also recommends designating an executive agent to oversee progress, establishing measurable milestones, and determining whether any DoD organizations are still holding DFI funds.

The war is a farce, it's crony corruption attempts at nation building that fails.

Maybe they just forgot to check their pockets before they dropped their laundry off at the dry cleaners. I'm sure all 8.7 billion dollars will be placed in an envelope and stapled to the receipt when they pick it up tomorrow after 5.

Likely sending it straight to some swiss bank account or buying arms for the insurgents so the war continues and they can continue to get defense contracts.

But on a more serious note, if I had to take a guess, I imagine they probably spent it on a $9 billion coke party in the desert.

It amazes me that after dumping billions into this country they still don't have clean water, enough electricity, a sweage/trash system, or even proper medical equipment after 7 years. I mean shit. ONLY THE GOVERNMENT CAN WASTE MONEY LIKE THAT.

You give me 1 billion dollars and I will have a huge custom house and everything I ever desired in my possesion. You give the feds 1 trillion dollars and 80% of it will get lost, and with the rest they will manage to buy 2 $500 million dollar hammers, an old pickup truck, and employ 10 or 20 bureacrats who will not actually do any work. It's never seen a more wastefull and inneficient system ever.
