+1 for Arizona. Attorney General says okay to check immegration status

Virginia Attorney General says it's okay to question immegration status of illegals. Marshall county, VA imposes AZ style law requiring police to check the immigration status of everyone they arrest -- but not everyone they come in legal contact with.

This will be used as fodder in the AZ trial.

In a decision that could lay the groundwork for an Arizona-style immegration, Virginia's attorney general said state law enforcement officers are allowed to check the immegration status of anyone "stopped or arrested."

Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli issued the legal opinion Friday extending that authority to Virginia police in response to an inquiry over whether his state could mirror the policies passed into law in Arizona.

"It is my opinion that Virginia law enforcement officers, including conservation officers may, like Arizona police officers, inquire into the immigration status of persons stopped or arrested," he wrote.

The decision comes after a federal judge blocked Arizona from implementing its provision that would require law enforcement to check the immigration status of anyone they stop and suspect of being an illegal immigrant.

Cuccinelli's ruling could justify that kind of policy in Virginia. However, Cuccinelli reiterated in the opinion a prior finding that while state officers have the authority to arrest suspects on criminal immigration violations, they are advised against arresting over civil immigration violations. Overstaying a visa would fall under the latter category.

The state's top attorney wrote the opinion in response to a question from state Del. Bob Marshall, who represents Prince William County.

Marshall's county implemented a law that requires police to check the immigration status of everyone they arrest -- but not everyone they come in legal contact with.

If the federal government would just enforce the laws they already have on the books, none of this would even be an issue.

But I guess with the whole country turning against them, Democrats have to try and find votes somewhere.

Crazy thing.....................if you are in the country legally..................you MUST have your card with you at all times......... and........... be prepared to show it upon request.

In other words, the existing law is much stricter for those here legally than it is for those here illegally.............b/c we all know there is a human rights violatio............. WHAT?!!!!!!

      Utter insanity

Regardless of your view on the matter...............the process by which we now navigate our way through issues is absolutely terrifying
When it's my time to go, I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my uncle did....... Not screaming in terror like his passengers

What do you mean? CNN told me this law was exactly like Nazi Germany where they would be asking for your papers every time an LEO saw you. I know you guys can't be right, the media is always right. They are the ones that educate all of us. After all, they are the governments best friend and we know the government does everything and supports everything that is right for us.

In Nazi Germany, the Jews were not climbing over walls, and burrowing tunnels to get in. And they wouldn't have been lavished with freebies once they got in. In the USA, if anyone is stopped for a crime, or suspected of a crime, you must show your ID, be the person Mexican, Chinese, Norwegian, or European American.

Mexico is a failed country and we are expected to give welfare for their citizens. We probably have about a decade to somewhat get a hold on this with security, work database etc.. but after that we will be overrun. Yes, white/black/yellow paranoia is very real. If you have kids make sure they are taking their Spanish classe's because every job will require you to know both languages in the future.

And look at how big the drug cartels have grown since we can't control them. Theyve put a million$ bounty on Sheriff Joe Arapiano's head because he's tough on illegals. Is this what Obama stands for? Foreign drug mafia's putting out htis on our county sheriffs?

And now Obama says since congress won't vote on amnesty, he will go around them and do it without congressional approval? I more or less agree with some of what Obama's immegration policy is, but the other half is absolute shit. he needs to get his priorities straight. Right now our immegration problem is more of a threat than anyonne in the middleast is.
