GM, Owed by Government, donates profits to democrats political campaigns

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...407086_pf.html

Supreme Court: "Corporations can donate to political campaigns."
Obama: "Buy 60% of GM with taxpayer dollars."
GM, Post-Takeover: "Here Democrats, take some campaign donations."

The carmaker gave $41,000 to groups associated with lawmakers, the vast majority of it -- $36,000 -- to the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, the company reported on a disclosure form last week. The CBC Foundation is a charity with 11 members of the Congressional Black Caucus on its board.

Meh... So they donated the proceeds from 1 Cadillac sale to politics. Hard to get too upset about that.

GM is a corporation. The conservative SCOTUS just told them that they could give as much as they want!

If you are upset about this, then you are against the First Amendment, and hate your country.

This is not first amendment ROB. Also GM is not a Corporation anymore. The U.S. owns a 61 percent stake after GM received about $50 billion in aid for its 2009 bankruptcy. This now makes it a state agency. So therefore that money comes from every tax payer in the US. So if you they were to take your money and fund republicans or whatever without your consult, This would be ok with you. It's an awfully slippery slope man.....

Actually this was going on before the SCOTUS decision, so not republicans fault. I think they're a bunch of crooks though, free speech my ass. It's a farking corporation for god's sake, there is no personhood. I don't know where anyone got the idea that when a group of people put there money in one place it somehow creates an entity that we should afford rights to like it was a person.

Bunch of corrupt pieces of shit if you ask me.

The point is not really the scotus decision here though, the point is that the government nationalized a corporation, then replaced the CEO, and now the corporation is donating to the administration that nationalized it. Seems like a conflict of intirest to me, but if you don't see it that way than I guess that's you.

                I was being sarcastic.

It looks like they were giving to charity, not campaigns. I am for the auto bailout. It is a loan/investment, and not a handout like that given to Wall Street, which the Republicans were all to willing to vote for.

Cummon Robansx, it's all the same thing. It's corporate welfare no matter how you look at it. You guys like to get on the right when they give taxbreaks and corporate welfare, yet when the left literally cuts them a check after they ran themselves into the ground, it somehow is an investment and not corporate welfare. Be fair here, it's all the same thing and it's bullshit either way.

If you can't run your business right than you don't get a free check from the government, I can guarantee you us little guys wouldn't get that if our small businesses went under due to mismanagement. If your a bank and give out unsecured loans to people who can't afford them, don't be surprised when eventually they don't pay and you go out of business. The government has NO BUSINESS whatseover in giving out money like this. And even giving a loan to GM would have been one thing, but they actually bought out the company. This just further solidifies the ongoing, near-fascist, relationship big corporations have with our government.

We really need to cut the umbilical cord between the corporations and the government in this country. Evil (and greedy) men will eventually mess up and ruin themselves, but if we allow the government to bail them out and give them a second chance, we may lose the oppertunity to get rid of these parasites. Let failures fail, let success reign. THAT, robansx, is what a free market is about (The one you hate so much, but that brought us all the wealth we enjoy in this country).

A true free market is nothing but a roller coaster. For capitalism to be successful it requires government regulation. Whenever there has been deregulation there has been major failure. Examples are the Great Depression, Savings and Loan Crisis, The current recession, etc. I know this seems counterintuitive, but it's the truth.

True, but name a better system. In all of history, name one system that has brought more wealth or a higher standard of living to a larger number of people. Its not perfect but its the best humans have.
