I cannot believe how long mainstream is pushing this topic. They are still using the word "Mosque" instead of community center, I believe.
They're gonna build you that nice mosque you wanted.

For every one Somali muslim in my state they say that 7 more are coming.
My wife who is a East Euro woman said when she went through her USA citizenship that there were maybe 10 eastern europeans/russians a couple of Mexicans and about 300 Somali's.

This new Mosque, or Islamic cultural center or whatever, should have a large plaque at the front that "condemns terrorism, 911, etc, and proclaim such acts are unIslamic, and anyone practicing terrorism is incorrectly understanding Islam". That might help, but it may make it a target for radicals too.

That's pretty much what they did in fewer words by building a 9-11 memorial to honor the fallen people/firefighters/rescuers etc. I don't see Al Quaida building memorials for our soldiers.
I mean I still agree it's not a smart move to do it at this time but really they are doing all they can.

This "moderate" Muslim that wants to build the Ground Zero mosque refuses to acknowledge that Hamas is a terrorist organization and blames US foreign policy for 9-11.
They should send this radical packing.

I am reading now that the plans to build this have been called off.

You know that 'radical cleric' at the center of the 'Ground Zero' mosque debate? Funny thing. He was hired by GWB as a representative of moderate Islam for outreach to Middle East
In light of the Cordoba House and its proximity to Ground Zero, Jon Stewart asks how close we should build Catholic Churches to playgrounds

I like to think that in any large group, you have mainly moderates and then usually a small subgroup who is on the fringe. The "extremists". I know a lot of moderate muslims so I know they exist, but all the ones I know are like the christians you see who are christian in name only. People who actually practice islam actively seem to be the ones who support terroism against the united states. It doens't help that clerics routinely come out in support of Hamas and other terrorist organizations.
I still believe most muslims are moderate, but the amount of backers the fringe has is very large. You can youtube a million videos of Imam's from mosques all over the united states saying they condone the current Jihad against America. I'm sure this one is no different. I mean even the guy who ran the Ft Hood on-post mosque condoned what the Ft. Hood shooter did, so I mean the amount of moderates in muslim are only a fraction of those we see in other prevalent religions.
Still, what are you gonna do? Protect against one little mosque at the price of our freedoms? We already did that with the patriot act and it hasn't been too successfull. I think gov should stay out of this. If provate people want to go protest day and night or not do business with this community center, than that's fine, but the gov can't say shit.

Timothy McVeigh was raised Catholic and there's a Catholic church right across the street from the OKC Memorial. Where's the outrage from conservative social authoritarians? Same logic.
