I think Florida has the worst drivers, in the country. Sixteen year olds, and 90 year olds, on the road together. Couple that with an uninsured immigrant population, that rode a bicycle as their main source of transportation, before they got here. It's a recipe for disaster, as indicated by the statistics, and exorbitant insurance rates.

I drive fast, but people down here just suck at driving... They give licenses away, like they were raffle tickets or coupons.

I absolutely love driving...as long as i am alone on the road.

In my town, as it sounds like it is in florida, the main culprits are the teens and elderly. Teens just driving like regular jackasses and the elderly refusing to drive the speed limit and constantly slowing down for no reason whatsoever. Here, they drive about 10 under the posted limit which is irritating. I understand they want to get where they are going safely, but not driving the speed limit makes me want to floor it and slam into them. They hold up everyone because they are scared to be on the road. I routinely see a line of cars down one of the main roads/highways here about 10 to 15 blocks long bumper to bumper turtling (just invented a word) along because of the elderly person at the front. There would be no issue if they would just drive the speed limit.

I have found an alternate route to work that saves me time and frustration as it is less traveled.

I can attest that south Florida is pretty bad. Back when I was there (not to be racist) when the French Canadians came over for their winter pilgrimage the roads were the worst.

That's how it would read here in Alabama.

I can't stand it when it's raining and dark and people refuse to turn their headlights on. You can't see them until they fly by you...because people here drive 85 rain or shine.

              Yup, the Snow Birds.

              Terrible.

Rain is the worst. People think it's so difficult and the cars today handle the wet roads so much better than they ever did in the past.

I do, however, think front-wheel-drive cars suck balls. I learned how to drive in the winter in New England in a '67 Chevy Impala. I've owned one FWD car (Dodge Intrepid) and to me it's a center of gravity thing. RWD has the center of gravity in the center of the car while FWD is about 60/40 towards the front. With the amount of driving I do I can feel the difference and that is only amplified in the rain/snow. Plus giving her a little juice around the corners w/ a FWD car is scary and a RWD seems to lock into a track and give me a serious hard on.

The thing that really really gets me is the people in their huge SUV's that all have 4WD, traction control, drive assist and all that jazz...three snowflakes and they cannot drive. I'll take my Crown Vic in the snow any day.

In my experience just about any vehicle on real snow tires is more capable in the white stuff than the fanciest all-wheel-drive whiz mobile with "all-weather" rubber. And a Subaru on snow tires is just about damn-all unstoppable until the snow gets higher than the bumper.

                      :::: drooling ::::

                      67 impala!!! Classic

I'm sure yours wasn't but I'm a huge fan of lowriders. Forget those 20" + rims give me some 13x7 100 spoke wires and I'm a happy guy. I did own for a while a 64 impala I was going to restore. At the time I didn't realize how much it would cost.

The Impala belonged to my Grandfather. It was an army green color and we called it the tank. I remember him taking me to a mall parking lot and handing me the keys. I think I was 12 at the time. He made me drive all the way around the mall backwards before I could drive it forward. I could barely see over the seats but I think that method worked wonders for me. Once I got that thing in drive and heard the roar of the big-block I knew instantly the connection between man and horsepower. Effing fantastic!

My first car was a '78 Nova. A little smaller but a steel box with one hell of a motor in her. I LOVED that car even though it was a puke-green color and it had an 8-track and a push-button radio. I thought I was Bo Duke himself behind the wheel of that car. I dreamed of painting her like the General Lee but it never happened. I would've done it even though it wasn't a Charger. Got into a crash with a big rig on interstate 91 but she still got me home.

Then I had a Datsun 300ZX w/ T-tops and flip-up headlights. Got plenty of speeding tickets with that one.
Then a Monte Carlo SS. Big back seat...got plenty of use.
                          Then a Dodge Ram XLT
                          Then an Intrepid - Boooooooo.
Then it was Crown Victorias all the way.

Today I saw an old pickup on the highway that was driving straight but I swear it was cocked at a 20-degree angle. Twisted frame. Dangerous.

Bringing this one back because I’m now driving 100-300 miles a day in my new job. It’s killing me smalls, especially as Tampa Bay has been getting an average of 10,000 new residents a month. It’s getting overpopulated without proper infrastructure. It’s rough.

The up side is I drive a beater with a 5 speed I bought for $200 that came with all sorts of dents and scratches, so people are wary of me even though I didn’t put any of them there lol.

Thats a lot of miles per day. I had a long commute into the DC area for decades that I no longer miss. Put around half a million miles in by the time all was said and done.
