But you realize that the money government gets to pay for those handouts are from the rich people? The rich people pay the vast majority of the tax burden in this country, and corporations employ millions of people (allowing them to pay taxes too), so the government takes that money from them and helps the poor. Nothing wrong with that. But we can't claim that in that cycle the government is the only one doing anything good, because without the evil rich corporations, there would be no money for government to hand out.

I wish there was a way to fix our growing income desparity, but theres no easy fix. If you do it by force that never works, but on the other end it's hard to convince rich people to stop making lots of money and instead pay their employees better. It's kind of a two edged sword with no solid answer.

The problem is that those who understand money will acquire it and become rich, and those who do not understand money will lose it and become poor. This is just the fundamental way things work. They were talking about this concept back in the days of Babylon even, it's not new. So how do you counter that?

It's like a corn farm. A farmer who understands corn farming will have lots of corn, whereas someone not skilled in corn farming will not have as much corn. Should the one who made his skill corn farming be forced to work just as hard but also give half his corn to the one who was not skilled?

The government has provided a defense of his field, and an economic environment for him to become rich from growing corn, so yes he should give back.

Well absolutely. Taxes are integral to the whole system. Ideally, the government keeps foreign invaders off the soil, and makes laws that allow businesses to run profitably, and in return you pay your tax to the government. Sounds like a plan to me, no?

I'm just saying that it's not like the government or Obama are giving out their private money from their bank accounts, they are just the middleman in a transaction between those who work and those who don't. Therefore, eliminating the rich or the corporations will be counter productive to anything the government wants to do, because the rich and the working class are who writes their paycheck. If they continue campaigning against businesses, eventually the business will go overseas and then the government will be stuck with all these people that need feeding, but no one left to take money from. (Like the soviet union)

The solution is to move to that little slice of heaven, N. Korea where there are no taxes and everyone is provided care.

It's legal in this country as Bernie Sanders is the Socialist Representative from Vermont.

You are a violent thug. And an apologist for the elite.

It's nice to help people out, but just because someone "needs" something doesn't make it the responsibility of government to provide it.

If you want free health care move to Cuba...
Hold on a second chief! We pay thousands, if not tens of thousands in income tax every year and this is after the homeowners and daycare deductions. We also spend about $250.00 a month in gas which is heavily taxed. Add property, sales and tobacco taxes to that and we are in deep. I am proud to live in a country that provides a safety net for it's citizens and hope that I will never need it one day. As for as medical insurance, that is just plain ridiculous. The cheapest family plan that my employer offers is around $1100.00 per month which I must pay about $600.00 of each month. I am grateful that my employer offers this but I also realize that I could not afford it if my employer was not kicking in. I also realize that my whole world can end with just one budget decision by my employer. I have no qualms with our government providing safety nets and health care especially if they can do it cheaper. I do have qualms with my taxes being used in useless wars and to give some company a tax break that will probably send our jobs over to India in the end. The poor and middle class are disposable in this country and need to stick together. I some some article the other day with people complaining about medicare now paying for smoking cessation programs but not one person complained about the smoker who has paid thousands of dollars in tobacco taxes and not received crap in return.

Why is that socialist? They just did a study showing that the highest paid CEO's are the ones who are taking away our jobs even when a company is financially healthy. You are nothing but a pawn to many of these "rich" people you are defending and they will use you at will. I am not against being rich but I am not against a strong government either. I have seen good loyal workers just crushed by their companies even after years of service. I want a government that is there to help me against abuse and poverty when I need it. If that is what you consider to be a socialist, then so be it.

                              Greed is a powerful drug.

                              Sloth is a powerful characteristic.

the two are an interesting dichotomy.

Greedy people want to keep everything they've earned, ill-gotten or not.
Sloths want a handout and want to rationalize wealth not falling in there lap as a a conspiracy.

Teach a man to fish. That's all I got to say. Too many of the social programs are open ended, one sided, hand outs. There needs to be follow through and opportunity tied into assistance. Giving and expecting are difficult cycles to interrupt with work and education. That requires ambition.
