Work is banning all tobacco use

So, yeah I'm pretty pissed right now. Starting Oct. 1st, my place of employment is banning the use of ALL types of tobacco on the premises. In addition, we have a form we have to fill out that asks whether or not we use tobacco. If we say yes, we have to pay an extra $50 month on our health insurance. If we say no, we're subject to random drug testing for tobacco. If we say no on the form but test positive, we're guaranteed disciplinary action.
It's damn aggravating for a snuser. I can easily snus at work without anyone ever seeing it, and I know I don't have to worry about the same health concerns that a smoker would.

So I guess it's either time to quit or to dish out the extra $50 and say F*** em. If it's the latter, I can guarantee you I'll still use my snus at work.

Give the anti tobacco groups an inch and they will take 100 miles. I keep seeing places where smoking is banned outdoors even in parking lots. Sorry to hear that your employer is doing that and I am afraid that stuff like that seems to be a trend now.

Are they banning nicotine, or banning tobacco? Say you don't use tobacco, and if you get tested, tell them you use gum or patches. Lying and evasion is always the correct, and moral response to unethical actions.

Say you don't use any tobacco, when the drug testing time comes, simply say you were using e-cigarettes. Nicotine without tobacco, since nicotine is not actually tobacco they can't do anything to you.

Actually, e-cigarettes are included in the banned list, too!
They are offering cessation classes (at $65 a pop) soon, and the employee pharmacy will be selling nicorette and patches, so I'm not sure what their policy will be on the NRT stuff.

Perhaps you can have a non smoking friend pee in a jar and tape it to your leg right before the test!

Perhaps you can go to managements office and piss all over their desks. tell em "here ya go!! test it"
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

Ok, I can see an overall ban of on-job tobacco use. But the healthcare insurance surcharge? F them.

And tobacco reduction/cessation products too? Nicotine itself is as harmful as caffeine. Name and shame.

Oh well at least they aren't firing people for using it and not hiring new users. Maybe the blame rests on a disgruntled coworker or former employee who decided to throw his used dip in the bosses coffee. I personally wouldn't be as careful where disposing my snus in response to crap like that. What kind of job do you do?

Health insurance is typically 40% higher for a smoker v a non-smoker. An additional $50 a month to cover tobacco use is dirt cheap.

It's none of their F'n business. Does someone get a discount if they don't drive a car? How about GoVegan? Does he get a discount for not eating meat? It's a money grab, because of the tobacco witch hunt that's happening in America. This policy should be subverted in any way possible. Steal office supplies to make up difference. They're stealing from you, so anything is fair game.

Well they do pay for the insurance, I think it's not totally unreasonable that you should pay part of the cost. Oh and it's true that insurance companies overcharge tobacco users they have a higher profit margin on smokers. I know a lot of companies also invested in tobacco companies, they were interviewing some spokesman and he's like were not a charity of course we have stock in Mickey D's and Altria they've got good dividends. It's also worth noting that the majority of the uninsured in america are smokers, I mean if your making 20-30 grand and smoke a pack a day you don't have 7k or more for insurance.

Consider yourself lucky. Some companies are banning the use of tobacco off premises too. If you continue to use tobacco at home you become jobless. Atleast you aren't being forced to quit to retain your job.

Oh I agree. Just sayin its not going to go away anytime soon and probably never will so if it only costs $50 more....well that is cheap. It costs an additional $250 [aprox] more a month to admit using tobacco for someone my age with a $2500 deductable, self imployed. thats just to cover my ass. no family members included.
