I like the little blue moisturizing strip on the Mach3. This morning I counted...100 strokes total which included the crossover and upward pattern on the sides of my dome so that it shines for at least half the day. I like the shine but have no interest really in putting any butter on it. I just wish there was a switch to stop the growth completely. I guess I'll get there eventually but I'm in no rush 'cos that switch it probably real close to another switch and even though my name is ED I'm not terribly fond of those letters together if you're pickin' up what I'm layin' down.

I am interested in a brush and some better cream though. Someone told me about a store called "The Art of Shaving" which isn't too far from my house. I'll venture over there soon and get some cool stuff.

On the topic of the straight razors, I commend those who can wield them. Nothing beats a hot shave at the barber, now I have not been to one of those in over a year but for the next function I might treat myself. Hell, my will buy a friggin' dress for that one occasion so it's high time I pamper myself.

I've used a Mach3 for the past decade. Started losing it at 21 so just said **** it. Due to slight laziness and the daily battle to get to work on time, I only shave 2 or maybe 3 times per week. I actually prefer the 24-hour "shadow", or I prefer to liken it to sandpaper. I have light colored hair though, what's left of it anyway. Between shaves I use bare clippers. The Mach3 is great to start with, and I've never switched to anything else. I will someday. When you first try it, be sure to go with the grain first, then against a 2nd time for maximum silkiness and sex appeal. If you do it everyday, you can skip the 1st step and just go against the grain after a little practice. Good luck, and welcome to the club Frosted! Also, I haven't read thru it much and not a member, but there are interesting tips and discussions on www.slybaldguy.com.

I thought you were pretty cool until you mentioned the Mach 3.

(I would clearly take owens advice over mine as he has much more experience in the matter, just throwing my experience out there lol).

I have been shaving my head for about three years. Used the mach 3 a few times and found it awkward. Not long after i was introduced to the headblade; it works fantastic for me. I can shave much quicker than i did with the mach 3. I do use the mach 3 to clean up around the ears and back of the neck though.

I can see how people who have been shaving longer than i would find the headblade awkward, but its fairly intuitive to me. Just run my hand over my head as if i was combing my hair back haha.

Definitely agree with the suggestions of a good brush and soap, these have improved my shaving experience immensely.

Just got a shaving brush for a pound and it looks really good. It says it's real bristle whatever that is. It's an erasmus - and I got some erasmus shaving soap for a couple of quid.

Just waiting on the razor. I've watched some youtube vids of the razor I'm getting - sad I know - but it looks like a right good shave.

I used the Headblade for a long time but got tired of the nicks and cuts. I started just using my Fusion three times a week. I might try a DE sometime due to the cost saving.

What's so sad is what hair I have left grows really fast so the blades clog up and don't rinse out very easily. I had an idea on how to stop wasting water. I have a regular Waterpik tooth flosser but bought one of these in the link below because of the portability. It works like a champ. What can I say, I am a conservative tree hugger.

                    Here's the kit
                    [IMG][/IMG]

I had a couple of days growth and it half killed my face shaving with a razor again. It'll take a while for my skin to get used to it again - maybe it wasn't a good idea having a couple of days growth but I'm imagining what it'll be like on my head. I think I'll award head shaving the bollocks if it's gonna do that to me.
I had to finish up with the electric as my face was bleeding :-( but then put on aftershave and balm and my face felt like a million dollars so I'll persevere.

The shaving brush is wet so it looks a bit tatty - the razor looks like a piece of class.

Advice and experience more than welcome.

I never really had cutting issues with a blade. I guess the only thing I can add, is be careful with the angle you use it at. Try different positions, and if that fails, try different brand blades for your razor.

Also, it will take 1-3 weeks for your skin to become used to the method of shaving before it gets used to it. After that your shaves will be super comfortable. Dont let the irritation you experience at first turn you away from it without giving it at least a months chance. Ive always experienced the same thing in the past, every time I would switch shaving methods(de,electric,mach3 etc etc), my skin would get super irritated for the first couple weeks, and then almost overnight my shaves became comfortable and irritation free. Watch some youtube vids and read up on Badger and Blade on how to use the razor properly, and how to get that soap whipped up right. You want that soap super fluffy, like meringue, with only teeny tiny little air bubbles, for lack of a better explanation. Makes all the difference in the world comfort-wise.

EDIT: Also, at first shave everyday. The less stubble you have, the easier and less irritating it will be. And get some witch-hazel for your head. I use it before my Nivea(the same one you have - best there is, IMHO). Alot of headshavers swear by witch hazel, as it works like the best aftershave, and helps keep irritation and razor bur/bumps at bay. Plus it is really soothing after a shave. Ever since I started using it, I have had absolutely zero razor burn/bumps.

What kind of blades are you using?

Thanks guys - I'm using Derby blades. I can get hold of Wilkinsons sword ones easy so I might try those as well.

The problem is I've got a thick stubble and sensitive skin and the blade was having trouble cutting through it. I've got fine hair on my head so I guess that'll be easier to shave.
My wife's now saying that she doesn't want me to shave my head completely - but I can't wait to get the lot off.

I've just bought a bucanneer badger brush as I don't think that the cheap brush is giving me a good enough lather - they've thrown in free Israeli blades.

I've actually missed that fresh feeling of wet shaving - throwing on some good aftershave immediately after the shave and then some of that cool balm really does make you feel a million dollars.

Owens - the razor's dragging way too much and just won't cut the hair around my chin going with the grain. It's actually better for me to shave across the grain on the first pass.
I think I'm going to try shaving cream next as I don't think that the soap is thick enough for me.
