Just an update - the wife says it looks fine.

Also - I got a bad shave off a Mach 3 yesterday - it ripped my face to bits and it was a new blade. Maybe Mach 3's get bad blades now and again.

Having gone down this little journey I remember why I switched to a Philishave. There's no cutting of skin - there's no slicing of skin blemishes - and there's no problem whatsoever. And it's quick.
I also use the Philishave to shave my head and it works a treat - it's not as close as a wet shave but hell - there's very little in it. I now apply aftershave and moisturiser after an electric shave which I didn't do in the past.

I've given up shaving my face with a blade now but I won't give up shaving my head with a blade. I've had absoloutely no problems shaving my head with a blade as my hair is a lot finer than my beard - my beard is like fuse wire.

An expensive little jaunt - but one that was worth doing and I've come to the same conclusion as I did 20 years ago when I started using electric which has been interesting.
    Philishave electric is excellent.

last night after a week plus using my DE some new shave soap showed up.

So I lathered up and went at my face.

I haven't had any issues shaving with this Edwin Jagger, so I decided to get serious. BAD IDEA.

When everyone recommends to let the razor do the work, it's true. I pulled my skin tight and pressed like I would with a cartridge razor. I went against the grain in a few spots and went three or four times over the really rough areas.

I was as bloody as if I shaved with barbed wire. I look fine today. No severe damage, but it was a hard lesson learned.

The weight of the razor really is enough to get the job done. Pressing and pulling like you're using a cartridge is not necessary.

I got the 110 blade sampler. One razor blade a week, I'm good for two years.

          New Razor = $39.00 delivered.
          110 blades = $29.00 delivered.

First year = $1.31 per week

Every year there after = roughly $0.35 per week.

Mach 3 or any other new fangled cartridge.

          $12 for razor
$1.50 per cartridge. $1.00 for battery (the new fangled ones vibrate)

First Year = $1.98 per week.

that's based on one battery per month, a new cartridge every week, and the plastic handle surviving an entire year. YMMV

          DE for LIFE!!

Were you really expecting a good shave off your Mach 3 and now your down to an electric razor? Your one step away from going to a spa and getting waxed!

The problem here is that I've got a beard like fuse wire and skin that's really soft, so a razor just rips me apart - there's absoloutely no point going around looking like I've been repeatedly stabbed by my 3 year old with a fork.

Since I've started using the electric my face looks a million dollars again - nobody can argue with what looks the best.

Another conclusion I've come to - I'm not really fussed on the completely shaved bald look - I prefer just a small amount of growth. The Wahl trimmer I've got doesn't get it close enough, so I've re-adjusted the blades so that they pretty much align perfectly to give me the closest cut.

There's also something called the Wahl Baldfader which cuts really close, leaving just the smallest amount of fuzz which actually looks better on me.

You can also get some balding clippers, they get real damn close without going all the way to the skin. The baldfader you mentioned are probably a type of this. Balding clippers is what I used when I was younger, before I started shaving my head like a real man.....

We used to have overly macho guys like you in the army - they would go well out of their way to make themselves uncomfortable on exercise. One of them got hypothermia from trying to be a 'real man' and I know of an SAS man that died from doing exactly the same thing.

Not that anybody died from shaving of course :-)

Hey! Don't forget the title of your thread " Does anybody here PROPERLY shave their head?" with PROPERLY being the key word here.

                          Now that's a fair point!!!

The title should have read "Does anybody here sort of half heartedly shave their head like a big girl?"

Hey, anybody who resembles Peter Bethune has to have a bit of macho in them and at least you tried DE shaving.

....at least you have gotten past your denial phase.

Seriously though, I freakin spit diet coke all over my keyboard when I read that!

Maybe we're all getting softer in old age - If you'd have said "I spat my whiskey all over the keyboard" I'd be impressed.
