Does anybody here properly shave their head?

I shave my head with a trimmer on the lowest setting as I'm going pretty bald on top but these days I want to get the lot off - the only problem is that I don't particularly want to use a razor. Reasons being - I shave with a good electric rotary.
I hate hair now and love being bald and was thinking of using the rotary to completely shine my head.

    Anybody done this?

You might want to talk to Owens. He uses a straight now but I am sure he has tried other methods in the past.

I won't talk to anybody that uses a straight.

Nope, I just let mine grow out. When I do start to go bald though, I'm probably just going to use an electric to shave it down to a manageable size and then Bic it. I've heard of people shaving their heads and then applying wax to keep it from growing back though. Perhaps that would provide the effect you're looking for, minus the need to muck about with razors?

That wax thing is interesting - I'll check it out and see if I can find anything on Google.

Do you have Nair in your neck of the woods?

Yeah - I've just checked that out there now and it seems that you have to leave it for 15 minutes and to be honest, if I shaved it would only take 5. But a good shout nevertheless.

Edit - and it can irritate skin.

Well, the waxing thing I was talking about was just applying a thing layer of it to the top of your head, like candle wax, I think. You'd heat it up just enough the it would get spreadable and then apply a thin layer. Let it set, and it starts to crack off as it hardens. My mother knew a guy who swore by it.

You could always do it Michael Jackson style!

If you're really going to do it, do it right. Headblade is the epitome of a clean shaven dome. It comes in several styles, and you can choose which adapter/cartridge you want to use with it.

For those with a shine problem, I will personally recommend their Matte Finish moisturizer cream. It is at most drug stores in the shaving section by the shaving cream. Yellow bottle that looks like a reusable water bottle.

Thanks bakerbarber - I've seen this and it's had mixed reviews. I've heard that some people prefer a normal razor.

                        Thanks mate.

Been shaving my head for 17 years. For me the headblade sucks. It irritates the hell out of my skin. And electrics irritate also, as you dont get a nice clean slice on the cut hair, so when it starts to grow back through the skin it can cause alot of irritation/acne/razor burn.

One of the best razors for the head is the Mach 3, if you want to pay like $30 bucks for 4 blades, and they dont last all that long if your shaving your head and face everyday like I do.

The above is the reason I went to straight razors and De's in the first place. These days I mostly use my straights on my face, and the De's on my head. I still use the straight on my head here and there, when time allows.

I would suggest you give a DE a try, they give a closer, more comfortable shave than even a Mach3, and it seems to take longer for the hair to grow back, ie you get your 5 o'clock shadow.....at 5 o'clock the next day. Pop over to the Badger and Blade forums, and go to the buy/sell/trade forum, and you can pick up a nice Gillette SuperSpeed for dirt cheap. Blades also. Good thing is its like $15 dollars for 100 blades. Waaaaay cheaper than cartridge razors, and the shave is infinately better.

And for Gods sake, get yourself a nice Badger brush and a good shave soap, you wont believe the difference that alone will make. Even Van Der Hagens shave soap from WalMart or Rite Aid will give you an infinately better shave than any canned goo ever can.

And if your looking to be shinin', nothing beats HeadLube, from the makers of the HeadBlade. Keeps you from getting irritation, and shines your dome up proper.

Good advice on the DE razor and I second your opinion on a good shaving cream or soap. I was just waiting for Owens to get in on this one. What took you so long?

Hey - thanks Owens. Lots of experience to listen to there.

I used a DE in basic training and I cut my face to pieces. Having said that - I can't remember it being a safety one.

Looks like I'll be Googling a while.
                              Thanks a lot.
