People always tell me I crushed their hand. I think it's technique. Occasionally I intentionally start out strong and firm then go dead fish on them. Sometimes I start out loose, then go strong. The best is to start out steady, then, with the slightest smile, apply pressure to the little finger knuckle and roll it under while squeezing tight as a vice. Most honest men will get mad and make a comment. Slime bags, bullshitters, and glad handing wimps might cringe, wince, or give a pained grin, but NEVER admit that I just caused them incredible pain.

A very good judge of character and barometer for first impressions.

Like meeting the girl's father for the first time; "Very strong grip son, you will be a good provider for my daughter." as he pulls his pipe from his lips, "Now let's check those teeth and gums to see how healthy the children will be."

Sorry, for some reason that post brought back a nostalgic vision but you're right, you can tell a lot about a person from their handshake (or lack thereof).

A firm handshake, always.. Not so much with women, they tend to start limb and get limber until someone breaks the shake..

I'm a woman and I hate limp handshakes. I also hate handshakes that cause me pain because my hand is being crushed. There's a happy medium in there, someplace...

Gotta give women gentle handshakes, but when shaking a mans hand you gotta have a firm strong grip!

No way! I expect a firm handshake from anyone, male or female. A firm handshake means that you are engaged and ready to hit the road running. A weak handshake means that you really don't want to bother, but you're just doing it to be polite.
