Same here Canuck. Restoring razors is definitely a hobby I want to pick up. Though, I think I'll start with safety razors.

Owens, where do you find these awesome pieces? Ebay? Antique stores? Relatives?

On an interesting note, I live about 20 minutes away from Geneva, NY where the Genco's were manufactured. There's got to be a nice selection of vintage Genco's floating around the Finger Lakes.

    NICE WORK!!

I find a ton of them at estate sales. Other options include antique stores, flea markets, just always have my eye out, basicly. Though, they are far from "nice peices" when I get them, as you can see in some of the pictures, lol.

Looks like an easy thing to do, but let me warn you, there is a TON of work involved in doing this. There are many variables that can culminate in the permanent destruction of the blade, or leading to the actual structural integrity of the metal itself being permanently destroyed, making it forever not able to hold an edge.

I do a lot more of them than I show off here. I really should post more here, its just that I dont really sell them here, so always forget. Havent put one up here in awhile, maybe I will tonight. I just finished a nice peice with genuine Ivory scales, which are near impossible to come across.

Cool stuff, Owens. There's another blog I read that has some pretty cool tutorials on restoration of vintage razors. I'm going to start hitting up some antique stores and looking into this awesome hobby.

Here is a Griffon Carbo-Magnetic 5/8 Spike-Point. Full Hollow Ground. Faux Ebony black bakelite scales. Adjustable Pins up front, fixed in rear. Jimps on bottom. As always, honed, stropped, and shave-ready.

This one is really interesting, the blade is actually magnetic! I cant for the life of me figure out why, the reason seems to be lost in time...

These particular razors are renowned for being super-smooth, great shavers.

If interested - $50 Shipped anywhere in the USA. SOLD!

As you can see, the above two are out of my personal rotation of favorites. Just trying to thin the herd, as I have several more in progress..

I wish you sold them in Canada ! Are they better than regular razors ? Do you use a wet stone ?

I would be willing to ship to canada, but would not guarantee/be held responsible for anything happening with your crazy-ass Customs. Once it left my hands with a tracking number, that would be the end of my part. Hate to be that way, but I just dont trust the Canadian Customs.

I use many typed of stones and hones, mostly wet.

I have a question for you , and I appologize about it being somewhat unrelated . I noticed you use alot of German straight razors , and I was wondering if you ever used or heard much of russian/soviet straight razors ? How do they compre to german ones ? Thanks!

Honestly I dont come across Russian steel much, what I do know is Russian straights are usually made from very, very hard steel. This makes them a pain in the ass to hone and get a good edge on, but if you set the edge right they are reputed to be great shavers . . .

As far as comparing to German razors, from Solingen - Solingen, and also English Sheffield razors, are definately the best.
