    Christine O'Donnell dabbled in witchcraft

    ~
O'Donnell makes light of witchcraft comment

LINCOLN, Del.—Republican Senate candidate Christine O'Donnell is making light of comments she made more than a decade ago when she was in high school about having dabbled in witchcraft.

"How many of you didn't hang out with questionable folks in high school?" she asked fellow Republicans at a GOP picnic in southern Delaware on Sunday.

"There's been no witchcraft since. If there was, Karl Rove would be a supporter now," O'Donnell jokingly assured the crowd.

Rove, the former GOP strategist and adviser to President George W. Bush, has suggested that O'Donnell's win in last week's GOP primary cost Republicans a chance to retake the Senate seat long held by Democrat Joe Biden before he was elected vice president.

O'Donnell, a conservative Christian activist, rode a surging tide of tea party activism to an upset victory over GOP moderate Michael Castle, Delaware's longtime congressman and former two-term governor. She faces Democratic county executive Chris Coons in November.

O'Donnell's comments about witchcraft were made during a 1999 taping of comedian Bill Maher's "Politically Incorrect" show.

"I dabbled into witchcraft. I never joined a coven," she said on the show, a clip of which hit the Internet as O'Donnell canceled Sunday appearances on two national news shows, citing commitments to attend church and the GOP picnic in Delaware.

"I hung around people who were doing these things. I'm not making this stuff up. I know what they told me they do," O'Donnell told Maher.

"One of my first dates with a witch was on a satanic altar, and I didn't know it. I mean, there's little blood there and stuff like that," she said. "We went to a movie and then had a little midnight picnic on a satanic altar."

Russ Murphy, executive director of the 9-12 Delaware Patriots, a group that joined in the tea party effort to propel O'Donnell to Tuesday's primary victory, said the focus on her comments about witchcraft was just another attempt by pundits and political opponents to discredit her.

She was just a kid, playing made-up kid Witchcraft. Satanic Altar? These were kids taking what they heard from Christians and Hollywood making crap up, and she thought it was real. It's a non-issue, except for others equally ignorant that just want something to try and attack her on.

(Whereby you quoted the satanic altar picnic. One of your shortest posts and I did miss it!!)

Damn!! Time once again for Remedial Speed Reading 101.

So, what is she now ... just a grownup playing at politician?

Why is such a revelation of her past a non-issue while dusty revelations of others' are relevant?

Goes to her frame of mind, your honor!!

Kind of a non-issue if you ask me, but could you imagine what would happen if Obama had "dabbled in whichcraft"? omg every fundamentalist church in the nation would be frothing at the mouth lol.

This girl is obviousely a FAIL waiting to happen. She won the same way Obama did, a vote AGAINST someone else, rather thana vote for her. I doubt she'll get elected, and if she does it will definately provide good daily show material if nothing else.

At this point I am hoping politicians do retarded shit so I can laugh every evening when watching John Stewart. It's the best I can hope for in these times.

Personally, I think all politicians dabble in witchcraft of one sort or another ---
they just know better than to make it known.

BTW, someone is taking this issue seriously:

Wiccan Community Upset With O'Donnell, Calls Witchcraft Comments "Teaching Moment"

"... this was 11 years ago she said that," said Reverend Selena Fox, the High Priestess
& Senior Minister of the Circle Sanctuary a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting
paganism and nature spirituality. "But the kinds of things she is saying now, saying 'well in
high school you are with despicable characters' or some such thing, she is actually defaming
Wiccans. Whether she intends to do that or not as a way to try and get herself out of this
political problem she has created for herself, the fact is America really needs to be a place
where you can celebrate diversity and practice your religion without getting ridiculed or
                    defamed."

                      +1

Teenage satanists always make the news with their rebellious antics and knee jerk reactions to Christianity and authority. They really have no clue about what they are doing, no research, and think that Satanism is just like in the movies.

They just reinforce the stereotypes, prejudices, and fears associated with the "occult". Which in turn fuels the fire of the masses that educate themselves via the drivel that spews from their local preacher or news anchor.

It really reminds me of the story of the West Memphis 3 and the unfair trial, if not the wrongful murder conviction they received. If you haven't researched the case, it is very interesting, with an even more interesting cast of characters. It would probably make a good thread.

O' Donnell is kinda hot though!
