As for all of the comments, don't worry about me. Lxkllr posted a study that concluded oral cancer DOES NOT result from snus induced lesions (leukoplakia). My dentist also said quitting snus would make the leukoplakia go away, but who would want to do that?!
all this hooblah for 7 pages. Idk if anyone mentioned this or not...I haven't read throug all the pages...but just switch locations for a week or two.

I think its cool to be objective, but lets not be like religious zealots or something. If you got white patches and they are saying its pre cancer, seek a second opinion if you have to, but don't burry your head in the sand that IT COULD NOT BEEE snus is 100 percent safe... Its fukin tobacco. If you have precancer sores from it, why take the change?

There's already second, third, fourth, fifth... opinions on it, and that opinion is that snus lesions don't turn into cancer. Almost everyone in the medical profession is like a windup doll that chants cancer whenever tobacco is mentioned, without any regard to facts or evidence.

Hello Snusjus. I was just curious on how you are doing since the diagnosis of leukoplakia. Also, what did your leukoplakia look and feel like? On the gums or on the inside of the lip?

            Thanks, take care.

I switched to portions, so the lesions went away within a few days. There is still a light patch, but nothing compared to what it was like when I used los snus. The leukoplakia was located on my gums and my inner lip, right where I placed the snus. My recommendation: if your upper lip starts to hurt or become white, switch over to portions for a while.

There was a study done in Sweden (After the EU shut down portioned tobacco) as to whether or not it 'caused cancer.. 0.8% of all snus users get cum cancer...
But since it's also the average in Sweden anyways there is no evidence that it is directly causing any cancer related to the mouth.. Sadly the ban on portions never got lifted.. Chainsaw the EU.

Man I'd hate to get cum cancer... Is it sexually transmittable?

depends upon which lips you use your snus in.
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

Blah blah blah. I was under the impression the vast majority of snusers had leukoplakia, until i did some research, and found it was maybe only 60-80%. For what it's worth, I have leukoplakia (only slightly discolored, right where i put my portions or los). I dont know how long i've had it, but reading this thread inspired me to look into some things. I am a doctor in training, and spent half a day reading up on all of the available studies. My conclusion, like most the other people on this thread, is that so called 'snus users lesions' are NOT pre cancerous, and represent a sort of 'callous' formed in the oral cavity due to mechanical stimulation. That is, that the cells of the gum have been altered in their daily routines (expression of dna into proteins and ultimately cell components), probably reflecting some changes in their DNA, either mutations wise, or simply changes in expression (changes in what the cells have decided to 'do', for lack of a better explanation). It is change that can be described in simplest terms as 'toughening up', similar to what cells on your skin will do when subjected to routine mechanical pressures (ie a 'callous'). There is no fundamentally 'WRONG' process going on in these cells, and as such they are not on the verge of becoming malignant or neoplastic (overgrowing into a tumor).

People.. Do NOT worry about leukoplakia! After researching into it, it literally does not bother me one bit, aside from the stupid conversation that I know will inevitably occur at the dentist's office. I know this has all been repeated ad nauseum, but maybe this will help some people be a little less anxious hearing it from the mouth of a future doctor. Also if anyone wants full copies of any relevant journal articles hit me up on a popular snus irc.

HTH and to my fellow snusers, SNUS ON MY FRIENDS!!!

edit: as a health professional i would be remiss if i didnt add this disclaimer: If youre a heavy smoker or have recently been a heavy smoker within the last few years, and you have leukoplakia that does not disappear in 4-6 weeks after moving your snus to the other side, you should get that checked out, it is easy and relatively painless to get a tissue biopsy off the gum tissue at your dentist or primary care doctor
