    Camel Snus TSNA's....

    Ingredients
    Pasteurized tobacco
    Water (33% moisture content)
    Pouch Materials
    Flavorants
    Sodium carbonate
    Sodium chloride

    Nicotine levels
8mg nicotine (Mellow, Frost) and 13mg nicotine (Robust, Winterchill) per pouch
2.4mg unbound nicotine per gram of tobacco (1.44mg per pouch)

    TSNA level
    1.3ug per gram of tobacco

Isn't that relatively low compared to most snus? Or am I confusing ug per gram with some other type of measurement.

Ug per Gram is the same as Parts per million but that is not the only issue here. Did you notice it says "pastuerized tobacco" not STEAM pastuerized tobacco. I'd like to know what that level is 6 months later when the product is used? Also their tobacco is flue cured not air cured and the "flavorants" are all kinds of sweeteners that destroy teeth. Add to that the fact that the Free Nicotine which is what your body actually uses is much lower than it is with Swedish Snus and I am just not interested. By the way. Where was this information made available? American tobacco is not in the habit of giving out any information whatsoever about their product.

I have to use Camel Snus for now, but I'm very careful to brush my teeth, floss, and use this special mouthwash my dentist recently gave me. Not to mention the toothpaste they gave me which contains 1.1% sodium flouride, the most powerful stuff you can get your hands on. At least anything I've seen.

So jakkebsons, general, thunder, are all 'better' for you in the sense that those don't contain as much sweeteners and steamed right?

I just wanted to comment on the sweetners, while I have not read anywhere an exact breakdown on the "sweetners" in Camel snus (I do recall seeing somwhere it listed as "non-caloric") I have read several postings in different places by diabetics and sugar sensitive users that use Camel snus (and Marlborough for what it is worth) that have no impact on their blood sugar levels. And my personal experience with Camel snus mild (when I did decide to use it for an entire day once) that it made me feel ill, I would assume it is ALL artificial sweetener. I don't do too well with artificial sweetener, real sugar I could consume all day with no ill effect.

And from what I know artificial sweetener does not cause tooth decay.

Well that's great to know haha.

I've been using Camel for the past week (2-5 portions a day). Monitored my gums where I placed the portions and glad to report no increased redness, tenderness, pain, etc. I was sure I'd see some redness or something but maybe that comes later.

I cannot handle sterks very long and never did the 13mg even come close to what a 8mg General does

The newer Jakobsson's Strongs have some kind of artificial sweetener, but it's orders of magnitude less than the American brands. I've been fairly vocal in my opposition to the Swedish makers using sweeteners, but the Jakobsson's is tolerable, and I like the strong mint a good bit. From a health standpoint, I think American Camel is /probably/ no worse for you than the Swedish brands, but the quality of the snus is lacking. It's too much like candy, and not enough like a proper tobacco product. Personally, I'd like to see the ingredients of snus codified, and not allow products that deviate from the allowed list to be called snus.

                I agree.

Although, have you tried the Camel Winterchill? (one of the new flavors) it's not NEARLY as strong as the Robust/Mellow flavors. Nice kick to it too.

That's the only one I haven't tried cause I'm not a fan of wintergreen. The Robust is my least favorite of the Camels even though it's the closest to real snus. They somehow managed to get all the right flavors in there(excepting sweet), but screwed them all up. Instead of bergamot, they have a thin lemon drop sweetness, and the salt doesn't blend with the flavor at all. Snus is supposed to be salty, and the salt in the Swedish brands tastes like its supposed to be there. In the Robust, it tastes like an inappropriate addition. It just clashes with the other flavors.
