OK, so I switched to Biotene mouthwash after finding out the Listerine burn is way more intense since I started snusing. LOL

Well, I've never heard of snus "burning a hole" in your gums. If you treat your teeth fine and have good oral hygiene then I really think your risk of any problems is minimal. Your upper lip will toughen up a bit, mostly as a reaction to the alkalinity and water-absorbing properties of snus, but it goes away if you stop and doesn't represent any sort of disease or injury as far as I understand. As for "snus lip", I guess your top lip sort of gets used to having something up there and you perhaps gain the sensation of having a bit more 'pouch space' up there to hide your snus in, but I suspect this is mostly a perceptual change more than anything else.

Never had any mouth problems, except, of course, that all snusers look like we belong in a Simpsons' episode. This is me.

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

DukeofPrunes, no doubt that it can't be too good for one's oral health to keep salted and flavored tobacco under the lip all day, but as a former smoker you should definitely be in a win/win-situation.

Do you remember the acrid slime you had in your mouth all day as a smoker? Do you really think that was better for your gums and teeth?

Personally I had some concerns too, when I switched from cigarettes to snus, but they turned out to be causeless. As a smoker, I had sore gums about once in a month. This didn't happen a single time in the last one and a half years, since I use snus. My teeth also have become whiter.

Again, as a smoker, who switched to snus not only your lungs profit but also your oral health. I haven't seen a single serious scientific study that tells the opposite (only some self proclaimed wannabe-health-experts do so on websites that are made to scare children).

            Cheers!

              Lesion/sore

Been snusing for several weeks, and now I've developed some kind of sore/lesion way up in the upper gum area toward the back. I'm not even sure it's from snusing, as I move portions around quite a bit, and most of the time they are in the front area like "normal".

Have any of you had this happen? What did you use to remedy the lesion? It's pretty sore when I touch it. I use Crest mouthwash twice daily and brush right after. I was thinking Oragel.

I had a similar experience last week, developed an ulcer of some kind, making snusing a little uncomfortable. Managed to remedy it myself by cutting my use in half and slowly building up again once it had a bit more healing time. Seemed to work :?

not sure if thats similar to what you have, as mine definitely felt ulcer like ... used Bonjela and less snusing.

When I used to be a piercer, as well as had 6+ piercings just inside my mouth, I used to get sores more often than I would have liked.

I always used/recommend a product called Gly-Oxide. You will find it in the oral hygene section of most pharmacies. It is a peroxide-based gel. what you do is put a couple small drops of it on the sore (you may need to hang uour head upside-down if it is in the upper lip) and let it sit there for about a min. It has a very heavy citrus taste that makes you salivate a lot. Keep the saliva in your mouth, and after about a min, use the natural saliva to mix with the solution to create a mouthwash. Swish it around for another 30 sec to a min and spit.

It knocks out oral sores faster than anything I have ever tried.

I had some sores in my mouth months ago. Small white "craters", really heavy pain. I changed my tooth paste to label which has no chemical, which makes toothpaste to make "bubbles", and after that, all sores went away.

Many people I know, had same type of problems, and all those sores went away after changing toothpaste.

laurel sulfates are what is used in most toothepastes to foam them up, and some people do react badly to it.

                        First lesions

Just sharing some of my experience here...

I've been snusing regularly since early May, and now pretty much am a chain-snuser. Yesterday I noticed some slight pain/burning on both snus points of my upper gums, but I didn't stop. Later on, I threw in some los, and felt even more burning which eventually subsided.

Last night, as I was cleaning up, I looked at my gums, and sure as hell there were open sores on both sides. My right gum had a very noticeable red sore that looked like it should have been bleeding, and the left side had a white looking blister.

A little trick I learned from a dentist was applying some liquid vitamin E to irritated gums to speed healing, and so that's what I'm doing up there to hopefully bring things back under control.

I'm curious what the trigger was for this to happen. My frequency/duration/habit hadn't changed, other than I started using Offroad more frequently during the last day or two. I noticed that their portion bags are a different type than what's manufactured by Swedish Match, and I wonder if that was a factor.

Oh well, I'm now using los in the lower gum (ala american style!) until things heal.

Stop at the pharmacy and get some Gly-Oxide. It'll heal you up in no time.

Whoa, scary shit... I hope you heal. I can't say this is something I look forward to developing. Either way please keep us posted. Again, good luck with the lesions.

!Whatever you do don't gargle with tabasco sauce

I wonder if it was from the differnet material used for the portions or a unique ingredient you had a reaction to.

I've had a sore lip before from dry portions sucking the moisture from my lip. Never anything that lasted more than overnight.

I always roll em around a bit in my mouth before sliding em up with my tongue to make sure they're a bit damp now.

Hope your back to snusing condition quickly.

As a chain-user, I'm actually surprised that I haven't had more irritation or problems. I have many allergies and sensitive skin by nature, and I usually fall asleep with a white portion in, and maybe even change it out during the night if I get up for water. The most pain I've experienced was a persistent burning sting during a phase where I was, yup, using a combo of 3 different Offroad flavors in the same 4 or 5 day period. I find that rotating from left to right to middle in the upper lip works well to balance things out in event of irritation, which is probably pretty common among we snussin' folk. Best of luck in letting the lesions clear up.
