    diet and health

I smoked and drank heavily for over 15 yrs of my early life. I was in a band so lived a rock n roll life.
I have eaten fast food for most of my life.
I don't do any exercise unless it serves a purpose e.g. walking
I am 40 yrs old. I am slightly overweight
There is a history of cancer and diabetes in my family.

Statistically I am a candidate for some serious health issues, its the magic number 40 that made this happen.

So about 2 months ago I smoked a packet of Marlboro's I have not smoked in about 4 yrs since finding snus. I don't intend starting smoking again, it made me sick.

shortly after an ulcer appeared under my tongue it got quite sore I felt really sick.
I used a number of ulcer creams and mouth washes and this ulcer would not go.

after a few weeks my fear was oral cancer, not from Snus but from my years of drinking and smoking and I also dip a lot of american snuff.

So 2 weeks ago I made a decision to change my diet.

I have been on a raw food diet for 2 weeks now, fruit, nuts, salad fruits, greens etc.

within 3 days on this diet the ulcer almost disappeared and a visit to the doctor calmed me as she says it was just a regular ulcer and it would disappear completely in a few more weeks.

I have stuck with this diet and you would not believe how much more energy I have. I sleep better, I wake with energy. I feel really good.

Snus tastes better and I feel the effect of nicotine more intensely.

So 2 days ago I relapsed on a Big Mac, Fries and a Coke. within 10 mins I had a intense migraine, I felt sick and was so dehydrated from the salt content, It was like my body was rejecting it.

Truly amazing how quickly your body adjusts to a new diet. The only issue is I am bored as frak with this fruit food.

I think raw food is better for you, but as you said, it gets boring. Try some minimally processed, vegetarian food. Indian food is tits, and is pretty healthy, and flavorful.

Congrats on the lifestyle change. Just don't let it become a drag. If you aren't enjoying life, there isn't much point in living :^)

I love Indian food and cook a mean veggie curry also I love dal. but it was the raw aspect that I am focussing on at the moment.

For the most part I really enjoy life so living for a while longer would be acceptable.

I tried this for about 2 weeks just to see what it was about,,,the raw food diet that is. I found it to be quite amazing as well, so much more energy throughout the day. I stopped the past few weeks as I literally had no time to go to the store and could only eat fast food (work), but I'd like to continue again.

Just out of curiosity did you ease into the diet or just go balls deep and decide to go raw food? I think my only real problem with it is the price, although it might be cheaper in the long run. Unfortunately I only have one farmers market around my.
I started pretty abruptly, and while it felt great, the sudden increase in fiber was pretty horrific. I will definitely be adjusting to the diet if and when I start again.

If you got bored, I'd suggest trying different things, there is such a variety of fruit and vegetables, most of which are quite hard to find.

Congrats on your success by the way..

I went from day one into a full raw diet. After reading more about it I am prepared for the detox as they say that if I loose weight and my body starts to burn off excess fat that fat contains all the toxins of the shit I have been eating most of my life.

Good one Snusify. I need to eat healthier too... i was vegetarian for a few years now like you i do the occasional binge at McDonalds. I did well a couple of months ago eating loads and loads of salad and loads of fruit with a bit of cheese and i felt great then i had a spell of being poor and had to eat whatever i good... then despite being able to afford good food again i have relapsed into crap food too often.

                      Congrats bro.
I need to cut back on the fast food. But I don't think I could do a "raw" diet. :/

I've been losing weight from at the beginning of this year. I haven't even done any sports or exercises regularly, I've just by eating less calories. Im also vegetarian. I've lost 15 kg's. My weight was 90 and now it's 75. I can see now I've eaten way too much before. Im fine by eating 1000-2000 calories per day.

As soon as a diet talks about detox I start to tune out. Your body removes tixins quite well everytime you take aa dump. Raw diets in general are even more strict than vegan. Unless you count sashimi you will need a source of B12.

I'm the same way with the detox thing. I was eating raw for a few months a while back. No detox symptoms or anything i've heard some people talk about.

I really liked the changes i noticed and how i felt while doing it. I plan to return to it shortly. They can be boring, but there are a ton of great tasting natural foods out there when you really get into it. As far as the B12, i was just taking multivitamins that included it every day.
