    quitting snus

I know it's a stupid question on a forum like this, but has anybody had experience quitting snus? It is different from quitting cigarettes? I know that when ppl quit smoking they often report they lack having sth in their mouth so they use chewing gums or sth like that. I don't think snusers have oral fixation of that sort so is their quitting different?

It depends on your personal level of nicotine-addiction and on your personality.

There are people, who can quit nicotine-use very easily, or use it on an off (mostly because they haven't used it long enough), while others (mostly long-time users) feel half-dead after a few hours without a snus. My personal addiction to nicotine is very high and (after forgetting to take snus with me once on a long drive) I can only tell you, that in the first few hours without snus you feel very normal compared to being without cigarettes for the same time-frame. But that's only because the nicotine that's absorbed from snus stays longer in the metabolism. After 5 or 6 hours the feeling is exactly the same that I remember from my trials to quit cigarettes cold turkey a few years ago.

The same applies for the habit-part of smoking. For me personally it never had a meaning. I have burned too many carpets and smoked too many really crappy tasting, stinking, dried-out or over-flavoured substandard cigarettes in my live to think that smoking has a use of it's own. It was just a way to get nicotine. So switching to snus was very easy for me. But there are people who really are addicted to the habit of smoking, at least for some part. I personally don't buy into the anti-smoking-preachers who have "clever" tips like to just use a lollipop instead. They just want to make us nicotine-users look deranged. If I were snusing for the mouth-feel, I could easily replace it with chewing gum or liquorice-drops etc., but I'm snusing for the nicotine.

It's a normal part of every nicotine user's "career" to quit (at least for some time) or to try to quit, so I'm sure, that you have some experiences of your own. For me, snus ended every incentive to quit nicotine-use.

We have some quitters here, but for comprehensible reasons they don't post that much.

    Cheers!

One thing I just thought of at least in my usage is that you can actually taper down to smaller amounts easier compared to smoking. With smokes it was close to impossible for me to just smoke 3-4 a day until I made the decision to quit. No matter what I always went back to half/full pack a day even though I wanted to be just a light social smoker.

Snus is just such a different animal that you actually have a little more control. I know I am addicted to nicotine but it is just a little more on my terms now.

My next move was giving up all longcut/los and only use portions but now that Thunder Longcut is coming in September and the Odens los 9mg.. just not going to happen.

another step down to nicotine free I think is using SNUFF.
That is my eventual escape plan when I am ready.

I have been on snuff only for the past week. I am not trying to quit snus, it is just what has kinda happened. I have my snus stash running low and a crapload of snuff. As soon as it cools down a little I will most likely go back to snus.

As for quitting nicotine......well, we're old friends and rather good friends and I would hate to say goodbye to nicotine.

Wish I could use snuff. I tried it for a while but it destroyed my sinuses so I gave it away.

I almost gave up on it until I found I like moist dark snuffs that don't shoot into your sinuses....because anything fine and dry gets up there on me.

Schmaltzers and kendal styles are my newest obsession......and I just push them up there....no real sniffing.

You're welcome....it took me quite some time to learn what was best for me......

Next is the south African snuffs, they are supposed to be moist and coarse as well.

I have several Schmaltzers in bulk... You almost have to pack them in your nose as they are heavy and moist... But they are delicious... Haven't tried the SA snuffs NTSU seems to be a favorite in that group...
