I think it is also important to note that snus and other forms of smokeless tobacco raise your blood pressure gradually and gently, and over a longer period of time, than smoking, so they are less likely to be harmful. The quick blast of nicotine you get from the first couple of drags on a ciggie causes a dramatic spike in BP, which is much more dangerous.

That said, any rise in blood pressure over normal values is cause for at least slight concern. Diet and exercise can help, and monitoring your BP at home is a very good idea. But if you need meds to control your BP, take them religiously. Uncontrolled high blood pressure is a killer.

      snus pressure

erm does anyone know about snus and blood pressure ? I just went to the doctors today and apparently I have hypertension
147- 97 was the reading .... the only thing is , I had a fresh snus in whilst the reading was taking place .... would this have affected it ?
I am just curious if anyone else has experience

Nicotine is a stimulant and raises blood pressure ... it is the main health risk that remains with snus (and any other alternatives to smoking)

but would the snus raise the reading I wonder ... I mean I could only have high blood pressure for the time the snus is releasing nicotine ... and then it would go back down , or does it not work like that

I have tried to check your theory a few times by throwing in a snus on the way to a doctors visit and did not see a bp increase, I'm a chain snuser anyway.....not particularly scientific but FWIW.

Well you have the advantage on me there then! You should be worried about blood pressure ... but there are plenty of other things that can contribute as well as snus ... salt, exercise, alcohol, caffeine and stress all play their part.

also i am healthy body weight and in pretty good shape , exercise frequently ... although i am prone to worrying ( as the thread suggests) as well as drinking coffee and sucking on snus

BP imo is almost entirely genetic. I eat anything and everything and my bp is 112/72. I rarely drink alcohol though.
I'm 44 with two young kids..so stress is not a stranger.
