I'm thinking the dentist says that out of lack of knowledge about snus. Everyone gets more or less gum recession by using snus, some more than others, but from my understanding, it's extremely rare that it develops in to a gum disease or something else. Did she say what it could lead to, pris?

I have quite a dip in my gums, but my dentist (who is very anti snus) said that my gums and mouth looked good, for now (as in, if I keep snusing, terrible things will happen and I will die). But I'm not concerned. Better my gums than my lungs, as Frosted previously stated.

Well, I think when I am asked to go back for a checkup depends on what dentist I see (varies as it's a practice) Most times it's 6 months, sometimes 3 but I remember last time it was 9 which the dentist I saw today was confused/concerned about.

She said if the recession gets any worse I could be looking at loose teeth :-o

That's what I'm trying to bear in mind in all of this that my dentist will be a tobacco nazi. I'm surprised your dentist in Sweden is anti-snus. Knowing my luck if I managed to find a Swedish dentist here they would be anti-snus!

The only way for me to not use snus would be to get on the Oliver Twists which although wouldn't save you any money i don't think they could cause gum recession... and use a bit of nasal snuff too.

Does it really say to use 3 at a time? ;-)

Wish they would ban them instead of tobacco.

Don't get me wrong Pris, Please understand I sympathize with your condition.....The point I was trying to make was that in my case, despite untold diligence and professional intuition my wife cannot prove her "smoking gun" theory on my oral tobacco habit. So far, I liken her to the treasure hunter that keeps digging for something that somebody else told her was supposed to be there.

So it's partly smoking and partly nicotine itself.
So are we maybe saying any form of nicotine used orally (including gum) is bad for the gums? and if so having nicotine in your blood stream from a patch would that still cause problems or does the nicotine have to be in direct contact?

                                http://www.earthclinic.com/CURES/rec...ml#BEEPROPOLIS

[YEA] 03/31/2007: Tammie from Prairieville, Louisiana writes: "My gums had started receding so bad that I could see a space between my two front teeth at the gum line, then I read that bee propolis can actually help the gum tissue to grow back, and it really works. No more space between my teeth.

Bee propolis also reduces fever, helps sore throat, canker sores, fever blisters and heals stomach ulcers and just about anything else you use it on."
