    Snus verses American snuff

My husband just switched from Copenhagen pouches to thunder snus.?I am still worried about the rusk associated with oral cancer even though most of the research showed snus doesn't increase the Rick. The problem I am facing is the majority of the studies are funded by the snus companies. Some experts say even though research states there was no increased risk associated with snus and oral cancer neverless there is still a risk. Are there any studies out there that are not funded by the snus companies that someone can show me? Should I make my husband stop using suns or should I get off his back and be happy he switched? The reason I am do concerned is because the Copenhagen loses left a patch in his mouth and his dentist freaked our about it. So he had quit quit for a few months then started snus. The area has since healed and when he visited the dentist he could not tell my husband had started use tobacco again.

Let your husband do whatever he wants... switching from american dip to snus is a great change, health-wise. You should be happy for him. Again, snus is proven not to cause mouth cancer.

Is he drinking? Or do you drink? Alcohol is a much greater risk factor for mouth cancer than snus, so if anything, you should be worried about that - or, don't be worried at all!

You have seen the evidence, and heard us replying and telling you the scientific facts about snus and cancer in previous threads you made. Take it or leave it!

I'm not trying to sound upset, but just reassuring you that snus has been studied to death, and no correlation between snus and mouth cancer has been found.

      Rick Charles kicks ass! Haha

Anyways here is a clip from 60 minutes on Snus. They talk about studies done that show snus is very safe and ignorant tobacco nazis that don't know a damn thing. By the way it's not good to make your husband stop doing things he may enjoy. That may be a cause for resentment.

Why are you asking a bunch of snus loving nicotine addicts for medical advice?

Swedish Match solicits health questions from the public and lists the e-mail address and phone number for an MD who is their VP in charge of Scientific Affairs. Send him an e-mail and see what he has to say.

Ok, so I see that you have now started a third thread about this same topic. Didn't you just post these other threads?

              Snus and oral cancer

              Snus and the doctor

We understand your concern regarding your husband's health. None of us are surprised in the least that you have been able to find a study somewhere that says oral tobacco can be harmful. However, if you simply use the "Search" or "Advanced Search" functions, you will find plenty of threads about health and snus. Also in the above threads, many members provided useful links.

If you are not truly here trolling the forum, then I would echo the others' comments about snus being a harm-reduction-alternative to American dip. Yes, it is safer.

                Newer study: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18005437

                Taken from here: http://rodutobaccotruth.blogspot.com...ects-from.html

"CONCLUSION: Smokeless tobacco, as used in America or Europe, carries at most a minor increased risk of oral cancer. However, elevated risks in specific populations or from specific products cannot definitely be excluded."

Minor, probably in the same range as getting oral cancer from potato chips (which also the news paper has been alarming about), or Diet Coke (also studies alarming about this). You can search of almost any consumer product and find corrections to cancer.

Tony Axell, a Swedish professor, said, and I quote: "I have probably looked at the most snus users in Europe, and have not seen one oral cancer case caused by Swedish snus."

                Another quote by him:

"Professor Axell says that he, with his long experience, can't say that he has seen any proof what so ever that snus causes oral cancer. In the great snus consuming Sweden, mouth cancer is a relatively unusual disease compared to other countries where you don't use snus at all".
