Issues with dry throat, need some advice

Hey guys, hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!

I have been recently experiencing awful dry throat, dry to the point where I can't swallow without a sip of water. It comes and goes throughout the day, sometimes I feel fine, then randomly it will get dry. Now I do have allergies and it is that time for the heat in the house causing dry air in the house which always triggers dry throat for me, but it has never been this bad, and this is my first year snusing in the winter. I started snusing probably 5-6 weeks ago which is when my dry throat seemed to get worse. I used to dip during the winter and smoke hookah in the past with no awful issues just the usual mild dryness I get from the dry air in the winter. This year has been the worst for me.

Some say the E1520 prop glyc found in snus can cause excessive dry mouth. Does anyone have this issue with snus? I only use snus 1 time a day, maximum 2 times a day, once in the afternoon, and once before bed, but usually just in the evening before bed. I wouldn't think that amount of usage would cause such drastic dryness but I guess it could irritate it if I already deal with dry throat in the winter? I have tried various brands, grov, gbr, skruf, thunder, ettan, etc. If it helps at all it seems to have gotten worse since I have been using GBR regularly. Some have stated if the PH levels are low, you are more likely to swallow the nicotine rather than have it flow into your blood stream which can cause drier mouth than normal.

Any advice as to what I should try? Stop for a few days (I went on a trip to NY for 2 days with my gf and didn't bring any snus and the dryness was still present the majority of the trip)? Try to continue snusing but spit to see if it is the nicotine getting in my throat causing the dryness? Ideas? I really enjoy snus and hope this won't be an issue in the future causing me to have to stop.

Thanks so much guys, it is appreciated!

It's funny you say that b/c my pharmacist told me to use it, almost done with an entire bottle. It seems to keep your mouth from getting dry but not from keeping your throat dry, at least with me personally.

I've never had any trouble. I'm hesitant to blame the snus in your circumstance. You aren't using much, and the problem continued, even when you didn't have snus. I dunno. Maybe you're hypersensitive to one of the ingredients. What brand are you using?

        Edit:
I just read more carefully. GBR is Goteborg? If so, try laying off that for awhile. That seems to trigger allergic reactions more than other brands. Also, try staying away from smoke flavor(rokarom). That bothers some people also.

I also just picked up some of these Halls Refresh Mouth watering advanced moisture action. Haven't tried them yet but something you may want to look into seeing how you will be swallowing the juices.

For a dry throat i often take a glycerine based honey and lemon medicine which usually works for me.

Thanks for the recommendations, I will give them a try.

lxs: I am inclined to agree with you that it is not the snus because of the low amount I use. I am also inclined to think I am not allergic to any ingredients as the dry mouth has been around even when I stopped using snus for a couple days. I just realized that Zyrtec, the alergy meds I have been taking, have a side effect of dry mouth/throat with extended use. Well since the damn weather has been so warm on and off I have had to take it longer than usual and I believe that is what is causing the dryness. The snus just prob hasn't helped the situation.

I have been off the Zyrtec for about a day or two but I think it will need a few more days before the medicine works its way out of my system.

If it helps at all, when I do snus, after I toss the pris and rinse my mouth, brush, and mouthwash, I don't have a dry feeling in my mouth at all. The dryness seems to randomly appear and go away through out the day, definitely odd how it comes and goes.

I will keep everyone updated. If anyone else has any recommendations, advice, or suggestions shoot them my way!

              Thanks everyone!

Ok so it isn't the Zyrtec I definitely think LXS is onto something, I just had a portion of grovsnus svart and bam, an hour later my throat becomes incredibly dry. As everyone knows, grov svart has rokarom in it! Now that I think about it, this must be why it is so hard to pinpoint what's causing the issue, because some have rokarom or other various things that give me a dry throat.

Honestly I had the portion in from 330-445, then around 545 I noticed my throat starting to get super dry.

I also noticed this with the skruf xtra sterk, and grovsnus los, all 3 either contain the rokarom or rose oil (which others have complained about as well)

LSX or anyone else that knows: What else bothers people in snus? So far seems like GBR, rokarom, and rose oil in the Skruf, sucks because I enjoy all 3 ... Anything else I should be on the lookout for when placing orders?

Still trying to pinpoint, I am going to layoff all the grov, gbr, and skruf, and bust open a can of the christmas gotlansssnus and use that for the next couple days to see how things go.

The big ones I've heard are Skruf(rose oil?), Göteborgs Rapé(Juniper?), and to a lesser extent smoke flavoring. That's pretty much all I've heard of, but it's most of Swedish Matchs' roster. They love smoke flavoring in their snus. Try Gotland, GN, and V2. I don't think any of them have smoke. I'm not sure about the other ingredients, but I haven't heard health complaints related to them.

Smoke bothers me as well as the cinnamon flavoring used in Christmas snus. I have no issues at all with GN kanell. They use real cinnamon flavoring.

SHIT lol, the next can I just opened is the gotlandssnus christmas flavor. Well we will see what happens I guess .. :/

If that bothers me too I will just stick with the types LSX recommended.

                        Updates as necessary will come!

                        Thanks!

                          Oh and one other thing,

MONKEY: when you would get irritated from certain ingredients how long did the sore/dry/scratchy throat last? I only snus 1 time right before bed every night and it has been (for the most part) bad almost all day with it coming and going here and there throughout the entire day.

                          Thanks

I have also read that propylene glycol (E1520) causes dry throat because it pulls or holds moisture ... if that is my sensitivity ... well ... im screwed? Do the amounts of propylene glycol vary from brand to brand?

Does dip have (E1520) in it because I used to dip back in the day with no dry throat issues.

I found ingredients on skoal and it seems as though all of their pouches/portions contain e1520 but most of the loose stuff doesn't. Couldn't find ingredient lists for grizzly which is what I used to use.

I really hope my issue isn't propylene glycol ...
