Hi guys,
I've been snusing again for a couple of months and thought I'd post a problem i had whilst smoking. Smoking affects (reduces) the blood plasma concentration of Olanzapine (a antipsychotic prescription drug I take) by up to 40%. It is due to an enzyme cytochrome p45 that is present in tobacco smoke (and grapefruit juice!). I used to have real problems when I quit smoking in the past and had a massive resurgence of Olanzapine in my system, and prior to quite recently did not have a clue as to why (I thought it was nicotine causing the problem). It was only when I researched it that this mechanism became clear. Now I'm back on snus there is no problem.
If you're on any kind of medicine, always do your homework as regards interactions!
