Camel was the first snus I tried, and I would feel half buzzed when I used it. This is from someone who almost chain smoked RYO American Spirit cigarettes. Camel has a reputation for being low in nicotine, but I'm not sure it's deserved.

According to Mr. Unloadingzone, who contacted RJR Tobacco, the Camel stuff has approx. 8 mg. of nic about the same as many standargd portion snus brands. I found it to be sickeningly sweet (Frost and Spice) when chained, and the Original is pretty nasty to my taste. I still have a couple half tins of Frost and Spice that I will resort to, only if I run dry on the good stuff. I think the Camel snus is laced with some unsavory chemicals, as American Big tobacco is self regulated. They could synthesize crack cocaine and nobody would be the wiser. When I was using the Camel, I found myself getting very compulsive about chaining it and checking to make sure I'd placed the tin where I could get to it easily...weird.

8mg of nicotine? Surprising because every time I've had Camel Snus it made me want a cigarette and I haven't smoked in months. I did get the hiccups with Camel Spice though but never with any other snus. I also get the hiccups when I eat hot peppers, I love habaneros so this is a little annoying.

Mr U-Zone, if you're reading this call RJR back and ask them exactly what's in this poo.

I can't speak for Mr.ULZ, and I can't explain the pepper thing. People can and do get hiccups independant of nicotine consumption. Getting hiccups from snus is strictly from nicotine. That's what happens when some people, myself included, get too much nic. too fast. I've come to really not 'like' camel snus, but I will have one from time to time. They're very sweet, and if you tend to 'pull' the juice out of the portion bag like you're sucking on candy, that's when you may get hiccups. Can't say this happens to everyone. I'd bet if you 'pulled' on some other strong portion snus other than Camel, the same thing will happen. Camel snus is sooo sweet, I think... after having one, it's natural to want to counteract the taste with something else, like a cigarette. I don't think I ever could've given-up cigarettes by substituting Camel snus. I was able to quit (to my surprise after more than 30 yrs. smoking) by substituting real snus for the cigarettes.

Big tobacco though??? Who knows what other addiction causing additives they use in their products? Glad to be rid of 'em.

I would so love to be able to introduce my dad to snus. He was a 2-3 pack a day Pall Mall non-filtered smoker for 60-70 years. He had congestive heart failure and finally died of a heart attack. I can't help but think that if we were introduced to snus many years ago that he might be here today. Or at least had a few more years with us. Smoking was my dads sole vice, never drinked and surely no drugs. 8 months before he passed away we had to totally keep him away from cigs or he would have burnt down the house. There were several close calls in that regard. He would be smoking and slowly nod off. We hated to take his cigs away because he had so little else in life to enjoy in his end time. If he had used snus he could have at least had the joy of nic, safely.

sorry bout the little, off topic rant but I now realize that snus would have helped not only health wise but would have also helped cement our bond and have more in common. My advice is........if you have a family member [or anyone else so close to you] that just cannot stop smoking PLEASE do all you can to convert them to snus.

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

My brother and my best friend and his wife(also a good friend) are on my list, I've given them all the facts but they continue to smoke. I think it'll take having a few portion cans sent to them to convert them, but I'm working on it.

Thanks everyone for the replies! I think I got it figured out as I have since then tried several other snus. I believe Camel has a good deal of nicotine but the reason I get hiccups is because as one poster stated, it probably happens due to the nicotine. None of the Swedish versions cause hiccups for me. I use Swedish portions for an HOUR+ while after about 15 mins. with Camel, the flavor and perhaps nicotine is pretty much gone. Seems to me that with Camel, the flavor & nicotine hits much faster than Swedish varieties. I would chain-snus Camel probably because of the huge OD of nicotine, it entered my body just as fast as it left, leaving me craving more nic. Seems like the FAST hit of nicotine would be appealing, but having to use a full tin a day in order to remain satisfied was not worth it. Plus, after using Swedish stuff, I no longer like the 'candy' sweet Camel. Kinda stinks because I would really like to see Camel, or any snus company succeed here in the U.S. I am an ex, now anti-smoker so I believe snus is so much better healthwise...wish I could turn my smoking friends onto the stuff.
