I could easily be vegetarian, and was for a couple years; it's my preferred food. Vegan? No thanks. I love dairy, and a life without cheese isn't worth living. I eat little meat, but the meat I do eat is some of the worst for you. Pretty much all I buy for the house is Spam and sausage :^D Well, land meat anyway. I also like fish a lot, but even with that my favorite is smoked fish. I'm sure that causes cancer too :^D

If cancer doesn't kill you, something else will. It's better to worry about living, than worry about dying.

      Mmm, smoked salmon...

Honestly, most people tell me they find cheese harder to give up than meats if they try out being vegan. I really dislike most cheeses. There's maybe two or three I've tried so far that I could just eat by themselves. Other than those, I don't eat cheese unless it's on my pizza or my pasta. I just don't like the texture of most of them, and the taste often doesn't appeal to me either. Certain hard cheeses I can manage fine, but I'll never understand how people manage to enjoy eating some of those creamy ones.

There's also always the voice in the back of my head, telling me that I'm contemplating eating some milk that's gone off. That inner voice can be an ass sometimes.

I'm not a big fan of soft cheese. I love hard cheese of all kinds though. Extra sharp cheddar is probably my favorite. Vegans don't get to have ice cream or yoghurt either. What kind of masochists are they?! :^D

Homo Sapiens have been eating cooked meat since before modern humans even came around. Homo Erectus was cooking meat 1.8 million years ago for God's sake, and every species of "human" from H. erectus all the way to the later species of H. heidelbergensis, H. sapiens neanderthalensis, and H. sapiens sapiens all ate cooked meat as well. Modern Humans came around 200,000 years ago and by this point we had very distinct morphological changes in our bodies because meat was such an intrinsic part of our diet, since it had been consumed by all of our ancestors before us (and more importantly, it had always been cooked, which is why we can't eat raw meat).

So not only is eating cooked meat part of our diets, but it has been since long before modern humans even existed. Changes in morphology resulting from this cooked diet of meat can be traced throughout our entire lineage, and as hunting tools got more advanced we introduced more and more meat into our diets. Humans, all the way back to Homo Erectus, have been on a mission to get more meat into their diet. So to claim no one used to eat meat just makes my hair catch fire.

you are right. I read that Homo Erectus also ate meat but still ...

n 'The Roman Military Diet,' R.W. Davies argues against the idea that unless they were from the provinces, Roman soldiers were vegetarian
All roman soldiers were vegetarian, at veggies, fruits and nuts - and still they had the muscle mass about twice the size of what a normal man has today.

So, during the world wars when there was rationing - people used to basically solely eat processed meats - spam, bully beef and all that. ALL of those people that I knew (that weren't shot) lived to a very decent age indeed and none of them died of cancer.

Oh yeah - and they all smoked.

so in theory cooking red meat till its charred or gray (well done) should remove all the harmful red cancer !

and Living is a 99.9999% chance of death

I don't think meat has anything to do in particular with how long you live -

All my grandparents ate a Romanian traditional pork food, I'm not sure if it's popular in the US

                        It's basically smoked pork fat - here's a picture

they ate this stuff with raw onions and bread

don't get me wrong it's delicious but it's all fat

this along with all sorts of sheep and cow cheese were the main daily foods -

they point is that some there is to much theory all over the place -

my grandparents all lived 80+ years up to 90 ..

one of my grandfathers has lived up to 90 and he smoked 3 packs a day and drank 5 bottles of rum on any given day

why doeasn't the media say instead that sedentary life for example gives all sorts of cancers ? ? ?

And pretty much every other cultures ate meat and they were all stacked too, so what? The roman soldiers mainly didn't eat meat because it was not convenient to carry on long journeys during a campaign, and there is no way to stop and hunt enough meat for 10,000 men. Eating mostly grains and unperishable stuff like that was far more practical.

Actually another study shows that charring your meat causes cancer as well! lolol.

Don't worry to much about life, no one makes it out alive anyways.

You're right there Precious - I'd attribute it more to a sedentary life.
My uncle has been an alcoholic since he was 16 - he drinks spirits constantly throughout the day and hasn't had a day off since he started. He goes through at least a large bottle a day. He never gave a toss about what he's eaten. He's also worked his whole life. He's 69.

                                damn straight

                                I've been sedentary for 4 - 5 years now -

Well kinda sedentary as a kid as well until 12 when I started sports and all ...

I can tell that my back is really bad now from staying to much on the computer and I also have arthritis, spondilosis, sinusitis and I can continue ... all these problems CAN be from a sendary lifestyle or at least the sedentary life makes them worse. When I move a lot, I feel a whole lot better...
