Welp, that's it. It's confirmed now, you are in fact going to die (statistically speaking that is, we all do).

I'm not too certain that I would be worried about bacteria growth on the snus, especially if its dried out. Here is a quick lesson on bacteria for everyone:

You need all of the conditions for bacteria to grow and thank god too. (From wikipedia)

F Food There are sufficient nutrients available that promote the growth of microorganisms. Protein-rich foods, such as meat, milk, eggs and fish are most susceptible.
A Acidity Foodborne pathogens require a slightly acidic pH level of 4.6-7.5, while they thrive in conditions with a pH of 6.6-7.5. FDA regulations for acid/acidified foods require that the food be brought to pH 4.5 or below.
T Time Food should be removed from "the danger zone" (see below) within two hours, either by cooling or heating. While most guidelines state two hours, a few indicate four hours is still safe.
      T Temperature Foodborne pathogens grow best in temperatures between 41 °F (5 °C) to 135 °F (57 °C), a range referred to as the temperature danger zone (TDZ). They thrive in temperatures that are between 70 °F (21 °C) to 120 °F (49 °C).
O Oxygen Almost all foodborne pathogens are aerobic, that is requiring oxygen to grow. Some pathogens, such as clostridium botulinum, the source of botulism, are anaerobic and do not require oxygen to grow.
M Moisture Water is essential for the growth foodborne pathogens, water activity (wa) is a measure of the water available for use and is measured on a scale of 0 to 1.0. Foodborne pathogens grow best in foods that have a wa between 1.0 and 0.86. FDA regulations for canned foods require wa of 0.85 or below.
In reality if it is dried out quickly, you will be fine.

Now, the other symptoms you are having could be related to just about anything. What did your doc say after your visit?

I remember when i was 16 and had some redman gold blend in and heard one of my parents coming up to my room so i threw it in an empty cope can to use as soon as they went away. I ended up forgetting about it for quite some time and when i reopened it it had a LARGE white fungus type thing growing on it that almost made me throw up on the spot, and i have a strong stomach. I'm not sure how snus reacts but i can tell you how chew reacts (it was probably my only time using chew instead of dip) and to this day i cant look at chew without thinking back to that huge white spider egg looking lump on some slightly used chew and wanting to puke

On the plus side lynx you will never have to worry about any member of this forum trying to bum some snus from you.

I re-use them all the time. It's not causing you any harm. If you are having chest pain, your doc should send you to a cardiologist or something to get a stress echo. It's unlikely that snus (particularly re-using portions) is causing any of this.

Hey sgreger, if your looking to buy some recycled snus, aka Eco portions, I might be able to hook you up. Your also in California so the shipping should be minimal.

perhaps i should start throwing my used portions back in to my empty cans to sell. I remember hearing about a woman who bought dip spit off ebay and used it as plant fertilizer. Might as well do somethin while you're doin nothin.

the bacteria is from the airbourne saliva. rinse the portion and put it in a container in the fridge if your that hard up.

anyway sounds disgusting. like picking up old cigarette butts off the street to smoke.

try using loose snus. you get almost double the amount of tabacco in each can.

hahah, reading all those posts is actually quite amusing. I surrender people, I won't do it again because of the health risks. I still insist that it's not as nasty as many say here and still, when you're out your desperate - IT'S LIKE CRACK!!

Anyone interested in buying some California dried pouches?

I realize that it might sound gross but really it isn't when you do it. There is still some flavor and most of all it still has potency in terms of nicotine. I just concerned about possible health hazards pertaining to the bacteria that might grow on it.
