I had a discussion with my friend, who is also a fellow snuser, and we were discussing health risks. My friend said that he read somewhere that there have been over 3,000 documented cases of liver cancer associated with snus use. As opposed to what I found, which is that statistically, snus is practically harmless and that the cancer risk is very minute, especially compared to cigarette smoking. Really though, how likely is cancer, stemming from snus use?

I've been wrong lots of times. Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

Can he point to where he read it? I would be interested in reading it. I am for sure a worrier and I can't help but wonder how dangerous Snus use is. I sometimes worry that the reason there aren't a lot of documented cases of cancer is because it is a fairly unknown form of tobacco use. I know that health wise, I would be better of quitting tobacco all together. However, the research that is out there does lead me to believe that as far as tobacco goes, it doesn't get much safer than snus.

I'm sorry but the more I think about this the funnier it seems. So many of the members here search and search all over the web for info on the negative health effects of snus and there is study after study by professionals and universities that have never linked snus to liver cancer or any cancer at all. Except there appears to be a slight possibility that it could be a contributeing factor to pancreatic cancer by 1% or .1% [I forget which]. Seeing you post "that he read somewhere" makes me think your friend doesn't want you to use snus. Let him come up with some documented proof please. We would all love to read it. Thanks for the warning tho.Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

Hmmm! liver cancer associated with snus use? I have heard of that minute increased risk of pancreatic cancer with using snus which is a far greater risk with smokers than snuser's But this is a new one...
Was your friend by any chance drinking alot of alcohol at the time of this discussion and mixing the 2 up.....

There seems to be some linkage between gastric cancer and snus, but only if your body contains the Helicobackter pylori bacteria (which 50% of the world's population does, but this is mainly because most people in developing countries suffer from it) - In mice with a high percentage of H. Pylori bacteria(and I mean HIGH) snus doubled the risk of this cancer.
Yet, it is hardly something any westerner need worry about because a) It's a very uncommen type of cancer, b) you probably don't have H. Pylori.
