A cohort study of 40,230 Swedish male construction workers with incident cancer.

Guys, have this COPD doctor quoting this study all the time saying how bad for you snus is. Has this one been debunked yet?

He's saying along the lines of that because it is a 2012 study it is up to date therefore renders any older study useless.

Don't really care, I'm not so naive that I think any tobacco product is harmless.

Well, just tell him you don't really give a shit, since he's a COPD specialist he should be happy you're not smoking.

I think he knows i don't give a shit already. But it annoys me that someone working for the NHS has this stance.

He would probably prefer to sell you some overpriced, ineffective nicotine gum/patches.

I'm not sure I have an opinion at this time. I'd like to read the full article, but can't find a free source atm. As it stands, the abstract seems to say that using tobacco increases mortality due to cancer. In other words, given equal numbers of tobacco users, and non tobacco users that have cancer, tobacco users are ~15% more likely to die. Interesting, but I'm not concerned so far. Just need to keep dodging the cancer bullet :^D

Guys this is an old report.

It was cited in the most recent and thorough study and was considered inconclusive. There were too many factors that kept the group from being a reliable control group. Furthermore the best and most recent studies have reached the opposite conclusions. In fact these other reports cite this one and address it's inclusiveness

If I am not mistaken these resent and more reliable reports are available on this site in the health section

What's amazing about that study is that there are actually 40,000 male construction workers in Sweden.

And I do see that the article linked to here was released this year but the report (not the article) concluded in 1992 with a follow up on the group in 2007 (a follow up mind you on findings already tainted on a group already compromised)
