Health: Swedish Snus vs. US snus

    Hey everyone!

Just a little background. I have been using snus regularly for almost 4 years now. I think my first can was Camel Snus, and after that for a few months I was getting the Swedish stuff from Northerner. Then that big tax rate hit, and I started using only Camel and Marlboro snus. Plus its more convenient because I can just head down to the corner store to pick it up.

When I first starting using snus, I did the research and realized there weren't all that many adverse side effects, compared to a lot of other addictive habits . But that info was regarding Swedish Snus. What about Camel and Marlboro snus? Are they worse for you then Swedish Snus? Because they sure do plaster the cans with the same warnings as chewing tobacco.

I pretty consistently use 1 can every two days. I usually leave them in for an hour or more, and usually have one in for 6 hours or so while I sleep.

Well, other than Skoal snus there is almost no nicotine in the American brands. Since American companies won't give us the full truth on what's in the stuff, it's hard to say if it's safe. It looks like Camel and Marlboro use cheaper, lower quality cigarette tobacco. I saw something online about the TSNA levels in American products vs Swedish and the American stuff was just a little higher. I don't really know for sure, but I'm guessing that it's not any better or worse for you, assuming what I've been seeing is true. But the quality is awful and there's almost no nicotine. The warning labels are mandatory for all oral tobaccos labeled for US sale.

If I had to use a US made snus, it would be Skoal. They have the most experience with oral tobacco, and it has higher nicotine. But it's too sweet and the portions are massive lol.

They're about the same in my estimation, but it's hard to say since the US makers don't tell you anything. The sweetness is enough to keep me away. I'd rather use Copenhagen if I used American.

Thanks for the responses. I didn't know Skoal made a snus product. I will have to check that out, I don't remember seeing it. How common is it?

EDIT: Just looked it, those portions look huge. One of the reasons lately I have been using the Camel over the Marlboro, is the Marlboro (in the round cans) was too big of a portion.

Maybe I will go place an order with Northerner. There are just so many damn products there I don't know what to try. I like mint flavors.
